Joan Mildred (Willett) Munro, 71, of Ellington, joined her parents, Roger and Mildred Willett on Thursday, Feb. 12, 2015.

She is survived by so many people who she touched and who loved, celebrated and laughed with her. Her loving husband of 51 years, William N. Munro Jr.; her four daughters and their husbands, Laurie and Eric Fraher of Somers, Tammy and David Lucey of East Windsor, Cindy and Richard Popovic of Franklin, Massachusetts, and Sherry and Christopher Crane of Ellington; her adopted son and his wife, Michael and Jonel Grassetti of Somers. She lives on in the hearts of her twelve grandchildren, William, Sarah, Daniel, McKayla, Jillian, Rayna, Richie, Munro, Caylee, Tyler, Mikey, and Nathan; her sister and brother-in-law, Janet (Willett) and Kevin Murphy of East Longmeadow, Massachusetts; and brother and sister-in-law, John and Christine Willett, along with their children, Kelly and Keith of Feeding Hills, Massachusetts; and sister-in-law, Gerry and Bernie Shaw and their children, Wendy and Kim of West Springfield.

Joanie leaves behind hundreds of hand-knitted blankets for family and babies in need at St Francis Hospital, thousands of scarves, hundreds of beaten bridge opponents, many well-fed friends and family, and a golden putter. She loved her New York trips, Florida vacations and good times at ERCC. The California and Italian vineyards will miss her but there is evidence on her cork wall of her love of good wine. Her children said that the following quote is so appropriate: "The next best thing to having you for a mom is knowing my children will have you for a Grandma."

We will be respecting her wishes by having a small private service as we lay her to rest in Ellington. The family will prepare a celebration of life service in honor of her in the spring so all can attend. In lieu of flowers, her family requests memorial donations be made to the William Munro Trust that will be set up for Joan's grandchildren's education. Donations may be sent to 20 Standish Road, Ellington, CT 06029.
