Jonathan David Kleinberg

Jonathan David Kleinberg, 73, of Manchester, passed away peacefully at home on April 9, 2023.

Jon was born in New York, New York to the late Ruth and Lawrence Kleinberg. Jon graduated from State University of New York at New Paltz with a Bachelor of Science degree in Art Education, and from the University of Connecticut with a Masters degree in Special Education. Over the years Jon changed careers several times. He started out as a Special Education Teacher, then moved on to become a Carpenter, and then changed careers again to become a Systems Analyst working in the insurance industry. Jon's hobby's included repairing antique watches, in particular pocket watches, and collecting tools. He was an avid outdoor enthusiast that spent much of his free time over the years mountain biking, winter camping with his brother, biking on rail trails, hiking and kayaking. During the pandemic, he led countless family hikes and bike rides. He had a unique ability to create solutions, to invent his own tools to fix problems around the house, and create new toys at the request of his granddaughter. Jon also had a unique and droll sense of humor, but was also very kind and quick to offer help when anyone needed it. He met his wife Betsy in mid-life and, as in one of his favorite expressions, he "had that going for him." He was an especially loving husband, role model, stepfather who spent many nights helping his stepdaughter study for exams. He was a nurturing grandfather to his granddaughter Gabby with whom he would play "the drawing game" and taught how to ride a bike.

He is survived by his spouse Betsy Deloof; stepdaughter Jennifer Deloof; granddaughter Gabriela Ortiz; and by his brother Joel Kleinberg and his spouse, Beth Kleinberg. He is also survived by niece Jessica Kleinberg Preston, Ryan, Maya and Teddy, nephew Jeremy Kleinberg, Gerrilyn, and Gus.

A private memorial gathering will be planned for late spring.
