Joseph Robert Libby, age 89, of Enfield, passed away on July 19, 2021, at the Suffield House in Suffield, surrounded by the warmth of his loving family after a long battle with Parkinson's disease.
Joseph was born on Feb. 7, 1932, in Winslow, Maine. He married Carmen Veilleux on May 7, 1949, for 24 years and he was a wonderful father to four beautiful children. He had many fond memories of his life in Maine before relocating to Connecticut. He was later married to his longtime wife, Irene B. (Jones) Libby, for 34 years. He shared his love of Bichon Frise dogs with Irene and they enjoyed breeding, raising, and showing their champion dogs of Valentine Bichons Kennel for over 20 years. He enjoyed spending time on his computer and was one of the first computer geeks along with his son, Ron. He loved playing cards, especially cribbage, hand and foot, bowling, and making puzzles. He enjoyed his grandchildren and loved family gatherings. He had a gentle, quiet nature about him and did not like to receive a lot of attention. He was the calm in the storm. He showed love and kindness to all people. His life was simple and full, and his love was pure. He will be greatly missed … until we are reunited again. He was a hard worker and provided for his family while working at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft in East Hartford and retired after 36 years. He also worked two jobs for 10 years while working at Pratt & Whitney.
Joseph was predeceased by his wife, Irene Libby; his ex-wife Carmen Veilleux Mullen; his parents, Alphonse and Rose Anna (Paradis) Labbe; his son Ronald E. Libby; his grandson, Bryan Torunski; four sisters, Ida May Hallee, Jeffrine Bouchard, Cecile Patrie, Lorette Roy; seven brothers, Ovide Libby, Laurier Libby, Raymond Libby, Fernand Libby, Emile Libby, Victor Labbe and Leonel Libby.
