June Stevenson Obituary

June A. Stevenson, age 86, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 20, 2016.

She was the only child of Samuel and Florence (Wilson) Stevenson and was born and raised in Manchester, graduating from Manchester High School in 1948. She went on to receive a Bachelor of Science Degree in 1953 from UConn. After graduation from UConn June was hired by the Aetna in Hartford and worked there until her retirement. She was a lifelong member of Center Congregational Church in Manchester, where she served faithfully on many committees. Her special interest was the annual church tag sale where she donated her time and talents to the flower booth, creating many beautiful terrariums and decorated potted plants. She enjoyed classical music, growing house plants, crossword puzzles, and reading the Hartford Courant cover to cover, paying special attention to her favorite columnist, Kevin Rennie. She traveled extensively during her adulthood to her favorite island of Bermuda and even ventured as far as Alaska and Hawaii. Undaunted by macular degeneration in her later years, she toured extensively with friends around New England with many local bus tour companies.

She leaves her extended family and friends, Cindy and Dick Birmingham of Broad Brook, George and Barbara Greer of Portage, Michigan, Marge and Len Sibley of Hernando, Florida, Matthew Greer of Portage, Jennifer and Jeremy Alfieri of Portage, Jacquelyn and Armani Mahoozi of Arlington, Virginia, and their two sons, Alexander and Sebastian, Doris and Len Johnson of Ellington, Jim Kost and Marilyn Wilson of Vernon, and Helen Plachta of South Windsor.

The family would like to extend special thanks to, the staff of Brookdale Assisted Living where she made her home, Marsia, Jean, and Violet of The HomeAides of Windsor, and Christy and Crystal of the Vitas Hospice team from Wallingford who provided such special care in her final days.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 28, 2016, at 10 a.m. at Samsel & Carmon Funeral Home, 419 Buckland Road, South Windsor, officiated by the Reverend Joyce Cretchfield. Friends may pay their respects to the family from 9 to 10 a.m. prior to the service. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, donations in June's name may be made to The National Federation of the Blind, 477 Connecticut Blvd., Suite 217, East Hartford, CT 06108.
