Louis Maffessoli Obituary

Louis "Lou" F. Maffessoli, of Amston, passed away in the comfort of his home surrounded by his family. He was 85 years young.

Lou was born in Hartford on June 11, 1936, to the late Carlo and Rose (Sylvester) Maffessoli. He left high school early to join the United States Air Force and was a proud veteran for the rest of his life. Lou met and married Audrey Larson after being introduced by a mutual friend, and they would spend the next 60-plus years together. Upon retiring from the State of Connecticut DOT. he continued to stay active in the community. Lou genuinely loved people, and people genuinely loved Lou. He would spend hours of his time talking with anyone who was willing to listen. Three times a year he bought and sold at the swap meet held at the Zagray Farm Museum. He was a collector of vintage toys, and loved his Amston farmhouse, but his priority was helping his community of veterans through his work with the American Legion.

He was predeceased by his brother Vincent "Vinnie" and sister in-law Jackie. He is survived by his wife Audrey; his daughter Lynn Maffessoli and his son Louis Maffessoli and his fiancée, Anna; his brother in-law Leonard "Lennie" Larson and his wife, Gina; as well as many nieces and nephews; and his close friends, Jack Willis, Roger "Hockey" Arndt, and Joe Simmons. We will surely miss him.

His family would like to express their gratitude to the Visiting Nurse and Health Services of Connecticut (Vernon) for their exceptional palliative and hospice care.

Lou was not a fan of funerals! Instead, friends are invited to share a memory of Lou or express their condolences at

I knew Lou from when he bought land in Vermont from my father Walt. Lou built a cabin not too far from our family cabin. We could yell to him across a beaver pond. Lou had a PA system in his truck, and a few times I rode with him, he would talk on it when in town and people would look around to where this voice was coming from, it was always very funny. We had some good times in Newfane VT, along with the Hayes, Foley's and my family. My condolences to Lou's family.

I was so sorry to read of Lou´s passing. I knew Lou from my time at CSE Credit Union. He always stopped by to say "Hi", even if he didn´t need anything in our department. He was definitely one of a kind.
