Lucie Marc Obituary

Lucie Marcelle Marc
Lucie Marcelle Marc, 86, of Suffield, Connecticut, passed away on February 14, 2025. That she left us on Valentine's Day makes sense, given she was born on the 4th of July 1938. Lucie was a holiday. She was fireworks, good food, stories, and song. Lucie was an irrepressible spirit who loved to flirt, sing, and make jokes. She showed love through acts of service; she wanted to feed you, knit you a hat, and protect you. Her dedication to her children and grandchildren was constant and unwavering. She leaves her son, Eric Marc, daughter, Monique Rioux, son-in-law, Mark Rioux, grandsons, Adam and Calvin Rioux, and daughter, Nicole Marc.
Lucie's life was the epitome of resilience. Born in Algeria, she and her family fled for France after the French Algerian civil war. Parisian life for a refugee in the early '60s was cruel, and it gave her the impetus to risk moving to Canada with our father. In 1964, she moved to Suffield, Connecticut, and brought with her exceptional tailoring skills, developed during the prime of French fashion. It took time for her to learn the language and the culture in the US, and while she did, she raised three children – ultimately alone after her divorce. A single mom without local family for support, Lucie raised three college graduates, maintained a home in a lovely but rural town, and built security for us. We knew that no matter what, we could always go home and be warm, fed, and safe. Lucie gave us what she didn't get for herself, and we are forever grateful.
Lucie remained unapologetically herself to the very end - feisty, stubborn, funny, loving, and charming. May we all possess at least a modicum of the stamina and light Lucie held in this world.
Lucie wished to keep her memorial private. If you wish, please make a monetary or time contribution to a local agency or charity that supports immigrants.

I always looked forward to seeing and visiting Lucie whenever I traveled to Windsor Locks from California at least once a month, sometimes more. She made the day brighter in every way. My condolences to the family.

Life on Mapleton Ave will not be the same without my favorite neighbor. I will miss her opening up her door in the warmer weather and calling me over to check in. She always wanted me to know she cared. She constantly told me how proud she was of her children and grand children.

She loved feeding outside four-legged friends and loved her flowers and porch with a view.

Cook up a storm in heaven my friend! I will miss you.

My family will always talk about what a warm and funny lady she was! Our Mother had one true friend and that was Lucy! Rena and Aunt Joann will be there to raise some hell with their dead friend. Friends forever! Love to family, Gail Castonguay Stegman
