Lucille Benoit Obituary

Lucille Plante Benoit, 87, beloved wife of the late Joseph C. Benoit, left to be with her friend and soul mate Thursday, Jan. 29, 2015, at the Hospital for Special Care in New Britain.

Born in Norwich to the late Leo and Elodie (Marcoux) Plante, she has been a Windsor resident for over 67 years. Lucille worked side by side with Jack to build both their first and second homes in Windsor. She and Jack rebuilt the family business that she aided in running after the historical tornado of 1979, L & J Service Co. (formerly Automatic Lubrication Service) before her retirement in 1999. She was active with the Windsor Chamber of Commerce, the Windsor senior hearing loss assistance program, and the SHHH Group for Hearing Impaired in Newington, and was instrumental in getting the Induction Loop Systems (AFILs) installed in the auditorium at L.P. Wilson Recreation Center. Lucille was an avid tennis player into her 70s and fulfilled her dream of attending matches at Wimbledon, England.

Her family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Scalise and his staff at The Hospital for Special Care for their exceptional care of "Miss Lucy."

She is survived by her son, Richard Benoit, and his wife, Linda, of Forest, Virginia; her daughters JoAnn Smith and her husband, Kenneth, of Windsor, and Renee B. Whalen, of Windsor; her brother Lucien Plante and his wife, Leona, of Vernon; eight loving grandchildren; and 19 loving great-grandchildren. Besides her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her brothers Rene, Leo, and Roland Plante; and her sister, Rose Foley.

Her family will receive friends Saturday, Feb. 7, from 10 a.m. to noon, with a funeral service commencing at noon, to be held at Carmon Poquonock Funeral Home, 1816 Poquonock Ave., Poquonock. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers please make memorial donations to the Poquonock Community Church, P.O. Box 262, Poquonock, CT 06064, or The Hospital for Special Care, 2150 Corbin Ave., New Britain, CT 06053.
