Maria R. Buiniskas

Maria R. Buiniskas (Alaimo), 95, daughter of the late Vincenzo and Calogera (Alongi) Alaimo, passed away peacefully Dec. 23, 2017, surrounded by her family.

Born in New York City, raised in Thompsonville, Maria was a lifelong resident of Enfield, a devout Catholic and communicant of St. Bernard's Church. Maria retired from Hamilton Standard as an inspector and worked for many years selling cosmetics. She loved traveling to Florida with Raymond, caring for her children and grandchildren, fashion, daily walks in Hazardville, and cooking for her family and relatives, especially her famous banana cream pie and cream puffs. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and aunt.

She leaves her daughter, Nancy Shanahan and husband, Joseph, of Wakefield, Rhode Island; son-in-law, William Gardner of Somers, grandchildren, Sean and Scott Gardner, Christopher Buiniskas, Maria and Alexa Shanahan; and two great-grandchildren; and many devoted nieces and nephews whom she loved and adored. She was predeceased by her husband, Raymond of 60 years; daughter, Deborah Gardner; son, David Buiniskas; and infant daughter; four brothers and five sisters, Anthony, Matthew, Charles, and Carmen Alaimo, Frances Vella, Lillian Porcello, Josephine Giuliana, Nancy Lashetski, and Esther Spanilo.

Her family will receive relatives and friends from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 6, at Browne Memorial Chapels, 43 Shaker Road, Enfield, followed by a Mass of the Christian Burial in St. Bernard's Catholic Church at 11 a.m. Interment will then take place in St. Patrick's King Street Cemetery, Enfield.
