Martha Adams Obituary

Martha "Martie" Adams, of Manchester, passed away peacefully at home on July 27, 2011.

She was born in Cedar Grove, N.J., daughter of the late William and Gladys Mitchell. She attended Cedar Grove schools and Bloomfield High School in New Jersey. She graduated as a physical therapist from the University Of Connecticut in 1965. She worked at Newington Children's Hospital for several years and then with the children and citizens of Manchester, in the public school system, through the VNA, and in Dr. Pedro Romero's orthopedic office. She was a member of the St. Bartholomew Parish and enjoyed singing in the choir with a very kind and compassionate group of Christians. She enjoyed her loving family and friends, holiday picnics on the deck, and the annual trip to the Jersey shore with her daughters and seven loveable grandchildren. Martie and Bill enjoyed escape weekends for biking and hiking and exploring about the New England countryside. Martie loved people and had many, many caring friends. She was a beloved wife and mother and sister and friend.

Martie is survived by her loving husband of 46 years, William M Adams; four daughters, Carrie McGill and her husband, Michael, and their three children, Chandler, Aidan, and Sedona of Phoenix, Ariz.; a daughter, Leanne and her husband, Stan Suplicki, and Leanne's children, Chase and Jenna Bruder of Mansfield, a daughter, Christine Dittrich and her husband, John, of Mansfield, and a daughter, Pamela and her daughters, Emma and Kaylah, of East Hartford.

Calling hours will be held at John F. Tierney Funeral Home, 219 West Center St., Manchester, on Sunday, July 31, from 2 until 6 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Bartholomew Church, 45 Ludlow Road, Manchester, on Monday, Aug. 1, at 11 a.m.

Martie and her family would like to express their sincere appreciation for the excellent and compassionate care given to Martie by Dr. Reale, Dr. Hauser, and their staff at the DeQuattro Cancer Center. They created a warm and comforting atmosphere of support as she battled cancer.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the DeQuattro Cancer Center or to St. Bartholemew's Church.

Bill and I spent some quality time this afternoon just remembering all the wonderful times we shared with Marty and Bill especially the New Years Eve celebrations and family vacations. It´s hard to believe that it has been that many years since we´ve lost Marty. We are both very fortunate to be in good health and still enjoying our retirement playing golf, bridge and our wonderful family. Sending our love to the family

well

The heavens just received one of the most amazing woman I have ever known. Martie touched the lives of many, many people. Her unique gift to brighten up a room, create beauty out of nothing, cook, create and simply just be are an inspiration. May you rest in peace and feel no more pain. My love goes out to the entire Adams family and all those who had the honor of knowing Martie.
