Mary Margaret Montemerlo, 74, a lifelong resident of Windsor Locks, CT, entered eternal rest peacefully on Sunday, November 16, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Hartford, CT, on June 1, 1951, Mary was the daughter of the late Charles Williams, Jr. and Mary Williams. A proud member of the Windsor Locks High School Class of 1970, Mary met her high school sweetheart and the love of her life, Leonard "Lenny" Montemerlo. They were married on November 6, 1971, at St. Robert Bellarmine Church and built their loving home in Windsor Locks, raising their family with unwavering devotion.
While raising her three children, Mary channeled her creative spirit into her home-based basket-making business, Westwick Cellars. These beautiful creations were featured in juried craft shows and sold to notable institutions like Old Sturbridge Village. Mary later brought her caring nature to her work at the Windsor Locks High School Cafeteria and eventually served in triage at Women's Health in West Hartford.
Known affectionately as Mary Margaret, she had a special gift for making the holidays magical, especially cherishing her role as host for the family's annual Christmas Eve parties, filling her home with decorations, favorite foods, and countless presents. Her big smile and boisterous, contagious laugh are among the many things her family and friends will never forget. Mary had a remarkable ability to make everyone feel welcome; her door was always open, and no one she loved could ever do wrong in her eyes.
Family was the absolute center of Mary's world, especially her five grandchildren. She was their most enthusiastic supporter and rarely missed their sporting events, proudly cheering them on from the sidelines. She also loved watching sports, especially as a devoted New York Yankees fan and an enthusiastic supporter of UConn Women's and Men's Basketball. Proud of her Irish heritage, Mary instilled a deep sense of family and tradition in her children and grandchildren.
Mary cherished her family summer vacations at the places that shaped her life, including Lake Carey, Pennsylvania, where she spent summers with her devoted cousins; Hawks Nest Beach; Misquamicut Beach in Rhode Island; and the Lake House at Lake George in Wales, Massachusetts. These were annual traditions shared with Lenny, her children, and eventually her grandchildren. The trips were filled with happy moments and lasting memories built on laughter.
Mary leaves behind her beloved husband of 54 years, Lenny Montemerlo; her devoted children, Kathleen Rossi and her husband Matthew, Matthew Montemerlo, and Erin Grasso and her husband JP. She was the cherished "Grandma" to her grandchildren, Nicolas Montemerlo, Jack and Luke Grasso and Ella and Kiara Rossi. She is also survived by her brother, Ryan Williams, along with numerous extended family members and dear friends. She was predeceased by her brother, Charles Williams III.
Family and friends are invited to gather for visitation on Thursday, November 20, 2025, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the Windsor Locks Funeral Home, 441 Spring Street, Windsor Locks, CT. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, November 21, 2025, at 11:00 AM at St. Robert Bellarmine Church, 52 South Elm Street, Windsor Locks, CT. Meet directly at church.
