Maurice Poissant Obituary

Maurice "Moe" B. Poissant, 67, of Longs, S.C., and formerly a longtime resident of Windsor Locks, entered into his eternal peace on Monday, April 19, 2010.

Born on July 26, 1942, in Richford, Vt., Maurice was the son of the late Anthony C. and Ordelia (Lavender) Poissant. Maurice was a graduate from St. Michael's High School in Brattleboro, Vt. He later earned an associate's degree from Springfield Technical Community College. A retired veteran of the Vietnam War, Maurice proudly served his country as a member of the United States Air Force. Maurice retired from Aetna Insurance Company after 25 years of employment. Following retirement, he worked for Spencer Turbine and Roncari Valet. He was a member of the American Legion Gensi Viola Post #36 and a Third Degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus Council #26 of Windsor Locks. He was also an active member of the St. Mary's Parish in Windsor Locks. For several years he participated in the Windsor Locks Jaycees and Little League programs. In his leisure time he loved to play golf and ride around on his pontoon boat during the summer months in Franklin, Vt., but his greatest joy in life was spending time with his family and friends.

Maurice is survived by his wife of 45 years, Beverly (Ruiter) Poissant of Longs, S.C.; his children, Lisa Martens and her husband, David, of Fort Mill, S.C., and Kevin Poissant and his wife, Amy, of Windsor Locks. He was admired and will be greatly missed by his four special grandsons, Marschal and Nickolas Martens of Fort Mill, S.C., Anthony and Joshua Poissant of Windsor Locks. They were his pride and joy and brought 18 years of laughter into his life. His brother, Marc Poissant of Swanton, Vt.; his sister, Ruth Babbie and her husband, David, of Sheldon Springs, Vt.; his mother-in-law, Beatrix Ruiter of Richford, Vt.; brothers-in-law, Darry Ruiter and his wife, Mary Sue, of Windsor Locks, Bruceton Ruiter of Deltona, Fla.; sisters-in-law, Pamela Morrison and her husband, Norman, of Williamstown, Vt., and Cheryl Leach and her husband, Allen, on Enosburg Falls, Vt.; as well as many nieces and nephews. Maurice was predeceased by his sister, Rachel Poissant, and his sisters-in-law, Joyce Poissant and Charlene Ruiter.

The family gratefully acknowledges the kind and caring staff of Myrtle Beach Manor.

He will always be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle, brother, and friend.

Relatives and friends may call on Maurice's family on Tuesday, May 11, 2010, at the Windsor Locks Funeral Home, 441 Spring St., Windsor Locks, from 5 to 8 p.m.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday morning, May 12, 2010, at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Church, 42 Spring St., Windsor Locks. Burial in Vermont will be held at the convenience of the family.

The family requests in lieu of flowers, donations in Maurice's memory be made to the American Heart Association - CT Chapter, 5 Brookside Dr., P.O. Box 5022, Wallingford, CT 06492, or to the Windsor Locks Fire Department Memorial Scholarship Fund, 2 Volunteer Drive, Windsor Locks, CT 06096.
