Michael Tocchetti

Michael Tocchetti, of Dover, Delaware, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2015, at home. He was 71.

Michael was born Sept. 22, 1944, in Stafford Springs to the late Victor U. Tocchetti and Cecelia Trapp Tocchetti. Michael served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War from 1966 to 1969. He was a licensed funeral director and mortician, and for the next 10 years owned and operated Tocchetti Funeral Home in Stafford Springs with his brother Mark. In 1980, Michael joined the civil service and moved to Frankfurt, Germany, with his family where he worked at Frankfurt mortuary for 13 years, returning to San Antonio, Texas, for a year, and then to the Carson Port Mortuary at the DAFB working as mortuary director during several significant incidents, most notably Flight 77/Pentagon. After his retirement from civil service in 2002, he worked for Torbert Funeral Chapels in Dover.

He was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Dover, Del Vets, USO board member, and the Eagle Creek Golf Club of DAFB. Michael was an avid golfer and enjoyed breakfast with friends at the Hollywood Diner.

He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Francine Tocchetti, of Dover; his daughters, Audrey Gaillard, of Dover, and Alison Bergeron, of Stafford Springs; his son, Michael Tocchetti, of Milford, Delaware; his brother Mark Tocchetti of Stafford Springs; and his grandchildren, Tyler and Brooke Gaillard, Emily and Rachel Bergeron, Cory and Greg Tocchetti.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held 10 a.m., Monday, Oct. 5, at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 631 South State St., Dover.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday evening, Oct. 4, at Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Road (Route 10), Dover. Interment will be in Lakeside Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made to the Delaware Hospice, 911 S. DuPont Highway, Dover, DE 19901.
