Michael Wisneski Obituary

Michael Wisneski
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Michael "Wizz" Wisneski, 73, of East Hartford. He was the beloved husband of Mary Ellen (Sawka) Wisneski. Wizz died peacefully on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, at Hartford Hospital, surrounded by his devoted family. Born on February 29, 1952, in Hartford, CT, Wizz was the son of the late Frank and Mary T. (Hart) Wisneski. Wizz attended Immaculate Conception School, Southwest Catholic High School and was a graduate of Hartford Public High School.
He met and married the love of his life, Mary Ellen Sawka on April 1, 1978, Together, they built a home in East Hartford and raised their family. Wizz was affectionately known and was a shining light in the lives of all who knew him – a role model, a protector, and the "Heart" of our family. He was a kind, compassionate gentleman, always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need. More than a stellar father, husband, grandfather, uncle, brother, and friend, Wizz loved his family deeply more than life itself. His classic "Poopa Grandpa Charm" that endeared him to his grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Wizz always carried a lifetime of hard work, love and lessons learned.
His professional journey included several significant roles, as an Assistant Manager at Top Notch, where he then transitioned to the Town of East Hartford Street Department, and concluded his career as President of East Hartford Equipment where he worked over 30+ years before retiring. Wizz was a proud member of the Sons of American Legion Post #8 in Hartford, and the East Hartford Elks Lodge #2063 BPOE and the French Club in Vernon. Wizz cherished the outdoors frequently spending time at the P&F Pond in East Hartford with his dog, Luke, where he also volunteered as the rental coordinator.
A dedicated sports fan, he supported St John's, the 49ers, and the Mets. He had a great love for polka music, which always brought him immense joy. Beyond music, he found great happiness in the simple pleasures of life, fishing, playing frisbee, and relaxing at the beach, especially in the sun at The Dunes, in Rhode Island. Known for his great sense of humor, infectious smile, and incredibly generous spirit, Wizz was truly loved by all who knew him.
Wizz is survived by his wife of over 48 years, Mary Ellen; his children, Loren Wisneski and Frank Wisneski; and his grandchildren, Israel "Izzy" Santiago, Aryzus, Asha, and Armani Wisneski all of East Hartford. His siblings, Douglas Wisneski (Debbie) of Berlin, and Mary Elizabeth Kendall (Ronnie) of Wethersfield. He also leaves his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, AJ Sawka (Cathy), Kathy Graham (David), Cindy Nadolny (Stan), all of South Windsor, and Judith Beeman, Michael Sawka (Michelle) all of East Hartford, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins, and special friends, Alfredo Hudgen, Leo Guerard, and Mike Czeipel.
His passing has left a void in the hearts of his family, friends, and all whose lives he touched. The family asks that Wizz be remembered for how he lived - marked by love, compassion, and profound impact on the lives of those who had the pleasure of knowing him.
The family extends its heartfelt gratitude to the nurses, staff, and medical team in the ICU and Palliative unit at Hartford Hospital for their kindness and care they provided for Wizz to help make his transition as peaceful as possible, which brought great comfort to our family during this very difficult time.
A celebration of Life will be held in the future, date and time to be announced. For online condolences, please visit www.carmonfuneralhome.com .
