Paul Arruda Obituary

Paul Louis Arruda was born on July 3, 1964, and passed away much too soon, on Feb. 15, 2021.

He was the collector of family history and memories. He was the favorite son of Millie Arruda Scarpace. Paul lived most of his life in Manchester, attending St. James Elementary School and East Catholic High School. He was an avid collector of everything ... from found objects to family and historical memorabilia, baseball cards, vintage toys and vintage vinyl. He used these things to create the very original gifts he made for all his family. His artistic legacy will be a joy to us forever. He leaves his son, Sam, a series of treasure boxes from each year of his life. Paul was happiest exploring the beaches of Cape Cod finding peace and solitude, but the joy of his life was his son, Sam. Watching Sam and his friends play basketball or baseball was the highlight of his week. For the past few months Paul was helping to care for his mom, only to predecease her by one week.

Paul leaves his son Sam Arruda; his sister Linda Arruda Wilkinson, her husband, Don of Glastonbury; and his nieces Danielle Bertolini and Lindsay Dickson of Charleston, South Carolina; his sister, Susan Arruda Riddell her husband, Frazier and nephew Evan of Canton, Mississippi; his sister, Anne Arruda Ansaldi and her partner, Bob Garneau of Manchester; his sister Joann Arruda and her partner, Tim Wielgus of Catskill, New York. He also leaves his former wife and dear friend, Carlyn Petricca Arruda; and his best friend of 31 years, Lynda Wells Majewski and her son Andrew Goulet, his Godson. He was also predeceased by his father Louis Arruda; and brothers-in-law Steven Dickson and Andrew Ansaldi Jr.

Private services will be Thursday, March 4, 2021, at South United Methodist Church at 2 p.m.

Donations may be made in Paul's name to South Methodist Outreach Program, 1226 Main St., Manchester, CT 06040.

I had no idea you (Paul) died, strange enough, I was just thinking of all of the people who used to work at BARC. I hope you're at peace now, so many things has changed over the years, it's not even funny. I think, we as humans shouldn't let things go through our hands, meaning... if you're thinking about a friend currently, call them now, because you don't know if it will be the last time you speak with them.

Paul, where do I even start? We met in 1990 and became instant friends working at Pratt and Whitney. We remained friends through thick and thin, and you became The Godfather to my son Andrew. He worshipped you, as did I. You gave him everything you had, as well as your son Sam. You considered both of them your sons, and you were so very proud of them both. We love you so very much and will miss you until we meet again. Love to you Paul.

My son, Jimmy DiMeo , loved to tell me stories about going to different businesses for BARC. He loved the comic books Paul gave him and that special attention. Obviously a wonderful and caring person. So sorry for your loss

I was just sending Paul another text, asking him where did you go? Hopefully, drinking Rum Runners at an all-inclusive resort in Jamaica. I felt compelled to find his family to get his status and my google search brought me here :-( I am so sorry to hear about Paul and his mother's passing. I saw him a week or so ago. He was in good spirits. I've known Paul for almost two years now. God put Paul in my life at a time I really needed a friend. A compassionate, caring and thoughtful person who I grew closer to during the pandemic. He often reminded me, "we are in this together." He was always a text message or phone call away. MY deepest sympathies to his family. He spoke often about how much he loved his son and his wife, and how much they meant to him. Rest In Peace my friend.

Sam and I will miss so much! You brought so much love and laughter to our lives. I will miss our good conversations, going to church together, watching Sam’s games together and sharing our love for our son. We have made so many memories together that we will hold onto until we see each other again.

Joann, Linda, Susan and Anne,
I am so sorry to hear about your Mom and Paul. It is so difficult to go through losing a parent and for you to have to face this is difficult to fathom. I remember your Mom with great fondness. She was a happy person and always greeted and treated me with a smile, like all of the Arrudas. I remember Paul as the nicest kid, sweet and curious. I feel for all of you at this difficult time and I am thinking of you. I guess our memories are supposed to sustain us through these times but, at least for awhile, it doesn't make it any easier so please receive a hug from an old friend who has you in his thoughts.
