Roger Waterman Obituary

Roger S. Waterman Sr. passed away peacefully on July 6, 2009, at Torrance Memorial Medical Center, Torrance, California, with his family by his side.

He fulfilled the American Dream. The son of a dairy farmer, he pursued higher education and achieved many successes in his personal and professional life. He was born in Hartford on April 2, 1931. He was raised on his family's dairy farm in Suffield. He served in the Navy and Naval Reserves. A true entrepreneur, he chose many career paths, including Connecticut State Trooper, restaurateur, and engineer. The latter being his true love and expertise, he built a strong manufacturing corporation where he held many patents and developed numerous products for the aircraft and aerospace industries. A man with a commanding presence and positive energy, all who met him were immediately enveloped in his warmth and charm. He was a single-digit handicap golfer, a former Masonic Grand Master and an avid Rotarian who had a passion for people and was the consummate host. Toward the end of his life, he was able to truly enjoy the fruits of his labors, his children and grandchildren.

He is survived by his brother, Charles Waterman; his sister, Nancy Lawson; his son and daughter-in-law, Roger Jr. "Jay" and Roxanne Waterman; his daughter and son-in-law Drs. Tammy and Jeffrey Cohen; his granddaughters, Courtney and Sydney Cohen, and his grandsons Matthew and Christopher Waterman; along with extended family and endearing friends whom he deeply treasured.

A private service was held for immediate family.

Donations can be made in his name to: The American Cancer Society, National MS Society or St. Jude Children's Hospital.

Dear Waterman Family,

I'm more sorry than I can express for the passing of your dear Roger. It was a privilege to care for him as a patient, and get to know him as the fabulous man he was, and spirit that he always will be.

My deepest sumpathy to Roger's family as I thought of him through the years since we graduated from Suffield High School. He was so well liked by all of his classmates. It is a shame I did not get to see him when we both lived in California. God bless his family.

Gordon and I wish to send our deepest sympathy to Roger's family. He and I vied for the classmate award for who travelled the furthest to get to our 50th High School Reunion. Roger from California and I from Houston, Tx.

I have fond memories of Roger's children as I had them when they went to Kindergarten in Spaulding School.

I also have fun memories of Roger, his Sax and his High School friendship with everyone in our class.

We ask blessings on his soul.
