Shirley McElroy Obituary
Shirley McElroy, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and soon to be great-great-grandmother, passed away the evening of August 27th, one day shy of her 87th birthday. Her husband Terry and children Debbie, David and Derek were present at the time of her passing. She was predeceased by her eldest son Dan.
Shirley attended Richford High School in Richford, Vermont where she excelled in basketball. Her love of the game carried on her entire life, never missing a UConn women's televised game. She moved to Connecticut with her family in the mid 60's, and eventually retired from Traveler's Insurance. Not one to truly "retire" she became an amazing country line dancing instructor, opening her own studio, Shirley's Country Dance Center. She continued her love of instructing into the last year of her life at the Vernon Senior Center.
Shirley leaves behind her husband of 67 years, Terry, daughter Debbie, sons, David (Tami) and Derek (Brian), grandchildren, Sarah, Josh, Zack, Quintin, Duncan, Heather, Jake and eight great-grandchildren.
There will be a celebration of life on September 21st from 1 p.m. - 4 p.m. at UUSE, 153 Vernon St. W, Manchester, CT.
