Stanley Nedwick Obituary

Stanley Walter Nedwick
Stanley Walter Nedwick, a proud military veteran, passed away Sunday, October 6, 2024 peacefully at the age of 83. Stanley was born on March 23, 1941, to Stanley Nedwick Sr. and Mary (Golas) Nedwick of South Windsor, CT. After Stanley graduated High School in South Windsor, he enlisted in the United States Air Force where he proudly served from 1962-1966 as an Air Freight Specialist with the 620th Military Airlift Support Squadron at Goose Air Force Base, Labrador, Newfoundland. After his military service, Stan had brief stints working for UPS and Hamilton Standard. While working at Hamilton Standard, in Windsor Locks, CT, he would meet the future love of his life, Virginia (Huestis) Nedwick, and in July 1969, Stan and Ginny got married in Middlebury, Vermont. They were happily married for almost 40 years and lived most of their years in Enfield, CT. He was predeceased by his wife in June 2019.
Stan would then spend the next 40 years, from 1969-2009 working as a mailman and postal clerk at the Suffield, CT Post Office. During his many years as a mail carrier, he dealt with all the inconveniences that came with delivering mail by foot; the inclement weather being the most challenging. In addition, there were dozens of dog attacks and bites over the decades. What Stan didn't mention as he kept a very private life most of the time, was the 2 lives he saved on his mail routes over the years, both on separate occasions, he saved women from choking to death. His remarkable hard work and integrity were inspiring and made such a positive impact on those who loved him the most. After his retirement from the Post Office, his major focus on life was spending time with his wife Virginia and caring for her for the rest of her days. Stan mostly enjoyed cooking while he was at home, dinners with family and spending time with his grandchildren. He loved to golf, watch his beloved Boston Red Sox and New York Giants, but most of all, he was a history buff and was always learning about the world and U.S. History, and was always able to tell those around him about it. He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, stories, and cherished memories. He will be profoundly missed and forever remembered.
Stanley is survived by his son Paul Nedwick and his fiancée Tracey, his daughter Lisa Graham and her husband David, sister Rosemary Gordon and her husband Gregory, his brother John Derrick, half-sister Agnes Desjardins and her husband Paul, his 6 grandchildren, Emily Swartzmiller and her husband Kenon, Jacob, Sydney, Sarah, Luke, and Conner, great-granddaughter Rowan and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will take place on Friday, October 18, 2024, from 9:00-11:00 a.m. at Somers Funeral Home, 354 Main St., Somers, CT, followed immediately by a Funeral Home Service with full military honors. For online expressions of sympathy, please visit www.somersfuneralhome.com
