Walter Johnson Obituary
He was born on March 11, 1933 in Suffield to Andrew Johnson and Martha (Linnell) Johnson. He lived in Manchester most of his life. He worked as a pressman for Treasure Chest Advertising and The Manchester Herald during his working years. Once he had retired, he began the greatest job he ever had (his words) which was watching his grandchildren. He was an amazing father and grandfather who loved being with family, visiting Cape Cod, and of course UConn basketball.
He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law Diane (Johnson) and Robert Crosby of Coventry, and his grandchildren Kaitlyn Crosby, Kevin Crosby and Sarah Crosby from Coventry, He also leaves behind his nephew Frank Johnson, Jr. and Esther Johnson of Colorado along with his great nieces Christie Hampton and Aimee Johnson of Colorado.
Besides his parents he is predeceased by his wife Inez Weir Johnson, brother Frank Johnson and sister Florence Johnson.
There will be a funeral service Monday June 14, at 11 a.m.at Holmes-Watkins Funeral Home, 400 Main St., Manchester, with burial to follow in the Wapping Cemetery, South Windsor. To leave a memory or message of condolence please visit

I was the teacher for partners in play for Kaitlyn and Kevin and was fortunate to get to know Walter and Auntie (Florence) such special people and boy did they love those little ones!! So sorry for your loss and it is a loss- when a special soul like Walter leaves the world is a sadder place- prayers and hugs to all of you - Miss Lisa
