William Scudieri Obituary

We are sorry to announce the passing of William Arthur "Artie" Scudieri, Jr., son of the late William Arthur Scudieri, Sr. and Helen Barbara Vitz) who died on March 21, 2023, in Sarasota, Florida.

Artie was born in Manchester, on Oct. 28, 1942, and grew up in Enfield on Wilstar Circle. He attended Cathedral High School, and went on to college in Kentucky, graduating from Morehead State where he studied architecture/mechanical drafting. Education was of high value to him, which spurred him to further his studies at UConn where he earned his master's degree in education. He started his teaching career in the late 1960s at Enfield High School, and transferred to Enrico Fermi High in 1971. After spending 35 years of service as a well-respected educator among students and peers, Artie retired to Sarasota in 2002. Also of importance was a strong work ethic. He almost always had two jobs and would spend evenings teaching inmates at the Correctional Institute in Somers or painting homes during the summer. While Artie spent most of his pre-retirement life in Enfield (including buying a home on Wilstar Circle just down the street from his childhood home), he lived in Stafford Springs for a few years where he and a few colleagues built a log home for his family, of which he was very proud. Growing up, he was an Eagles scout - prepared for anything, and also loved sports; he played softball for many years on multiple teams in both Enfield and Stafford Springs leagues and was also an avid golfer. He liked to spend time on the course at his Brewster get-away in Cape Cod, Massachusetts, and spent many summers enjoying family trips there. Additional fond memories include visiting Italy with family, skydiving, and watching UConn women's basketball with his mom. He was an active member of various social clubs, such as the Moose Lodge and Fraternal Order of Eagles, and contributed to many philanthropic organizations.

He is survived by his eldest daughter Angela Lomel and her husband, Brian Lomel, his youngest daughter Tracy Scudieri; his brother Phillip Michael Scudieri and his wife, Celinda Ellsworth; several nieces and nephews; and many, many cherished friends and colleagues who meant so much to him over the years. Artie was preceded in death by his brother Dennis Scudieri; and sisters Donna Hudson and Gail Karanian.

He'll be remembered fondly as a loving father, for being the life of the party who loved to crack jokes, and for always having good food stories.

It was Artie's desire to be cremated and have his ashes scattered at some of his favorite haunts, which will be honored at the family's discretion.

Memorial contributions can be made to Disabled American Veterans, P.O. Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH 45250-0301

I had the privilege of growing up with the Scudieri family on Wilstar Circle, a great tight knit neighborhood. Artie was a great friend to our family and our deepest condolences and prayers go out to his children. He will be missed especially by my brother Jeff who kept in close touch with him.
