Curtis Mazique Obituary

CURTIS MAZIQUE SR., 77 FREEPORT - Curtis Mazique Sr., 77, of Freeport, passed away Sunday, March 10, 2013, at Asta Care Center in Rockford. Curtis was born July 18, 1935, in Alligator, Miss., the son of Willie and Daisy Lee (Fields) Mazique. Curtis attended Freeport schools. Curtis worked many years at Burgess Battery and was employed at State Bank of Freeport until his retirement in 1997. Surviving are one son, Curtis A. Mazique of Minneapolis; three daughters, Rose M. (Willie) Veasley of Freeport, Laurie A. Webster of Rockford, and Lisa J. Olson of Freeport; three brothers, Roosevelt (Essie) and James (Renee), both of Freeport, and Charles of Seattle, Wash.; two sisters, Alberta and Daisy, both of Seattle; 24 grandchildren; and 11 great- grandchildren; and numerous other relatives. Preceding Curtis in death are his parents; three brothers, Willie Lee, Lee Andrew, and Fred "Shuggy"; and one sister, Lola Mae. Curtis will be remembered for his loving and generous nature. Funeral service at 11 a.m. Friday, March 15, at New Jerusalem Church of God in Christ, 4 East Iroquois St., Freeport, with visitation from 10 a.m. to time of service. Burial in Oakland Cemetery. My husband and I remember Curtis well from working with him at the old State Bank of Freeport downtown. He was always good natured and had a wonderful sense of humor. We remember him to be hard working and he got along with everyone. Rest in peace.
