Howard Detra Obituary

Howard E. Detra Jr. 1948—2017
Howard E. Detra Jr., 69, of South Wayne, WI died Wednesday, November 1, 2017, in a Lafayette County auto accident. Howard was born July 7, 1948, in Oregon, IL to Howard and Mary Jane (Davison) Detra Sr., and was a 1966 graduate of the Oregon High School. Howard served in the U.S. Marines from 1968–1972. He worked at various jobs throughout the years and retired from Kelly-Springfield/Titan in Freeport in 2009, after 20 years. Howard's favorite pastimes were fishing, hunting, trap shooting, cooking, baking, putzing around on his brother's farm and Sunday dinners with his family. He was preceded in death by his parents and two infant brothers, Richard and Stephen. Howard is survived by four children, Chris Detra (Jesse Dehning) of Cresco, IA, Stephen Detra (Ashley Smith) of Albany, Heidi Detra (Steve Hancock) of Madison and Michelle (Tim) Voeck of Madison; 13 grandchildren, Tessa, Kirsten, Angel, Dayne, Stephen, Austin, Emily, Shayleigh, Carrson, Madalyn, Madden, Mariah and Tristen; great-grandson, Felix; two brothers, Ralph (Nancy) of Postville, IA and Stuart of Dodgeville; four sisters, Barbara Detra of Blue River and Karen Detra, Deborah Detra and Jody (Gary) Snyder, all of Janesville; his faithful dog, Snoopy; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, November 7, 2017, at Lulloff-Peterson-Houck Funeral Home in Dodgeville, followed by Full Military Honors. Visitation will be from 3 p.m. until service time. Lulloff-Peterson-Houck Funeral Home, Dodgeville, 608-935-3628, www.houckfuneralhomes.com
