Jason Giles Obituary

Jason C. Giles 1973—2016
Jason Charles Giles, born December 1, 1973, in Freeport, IL., was a contemporary renaissance man, a 21st-century jack-of-all-trades, equally adept working with computer media or his hands. A visionary 2D and 3D graphic designer, gifted artist and master carpenter, Jason expressed a personal touch and natural sense of style through whatever he set out to do. Aided by software of his own design, he created vivid 3D universes that received millions of views and were projected before sold out audiences in arenas around the world. He optimized functional utility and created oases of comfort in and around his family's home. He used paint to render intimate scenes, stunning landscapes and to strikingly adorn motorcycle and hockey goalie helmets. Jason met the love of his life, Siok Khing Yeo, from Singapore, in February 2003. They married on his birthday in 2006 and eventually settled in Longmont, where they raised their 2 beautiful children, Olive, 6, and Devon, 4. He loved cooking for his family, playing with Olive and Devon, and landscaping and gardening with Siok Khing. He appreciated science fiction movies, ice hockey and an impressively diverse range of music. His acute, eclectic curiosity kept him constantly in search of new knowledge and techniques to further his various crafts. From his parents, Rick and Joyce, he inherited a talent and passion for street and off-road motorcycling, and took his Ducati on open-ended solo rides through the foothills above Longmont, CO. He enjoyed travels with friends and family, and spent time in Mexico, Costa Rica, Panama, Indonesia, Japan and Singapore. He floated portions of the Colorado River and, with his family, explored the state. Even with his many areas of artful expertise and immense talent, Jason will be best remembered for his solid, stoic presence, dry Midwestern wit (which often ranged to comedic silliness), generous nature and warm heart. First and foremost, he'll be thought of as a loyal, caring friend and proud, loving and devoted husband, father and son. He will be always loved, sorely and forever missed. In addition to Siok Khing, Olive and Devon, Jason is survived by parents Rick and Joyce Giles of Freeport IL, sister Kristin (Dan)Van House of Blaine MN., niece Alyssa Mulder of Pecatonica, IL., grandparents Ed and Florence Giles and Wilbur and Alice Mitchell, all of Freeport IL.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 7th , from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., immediately followed by a Memorial Service at Winneshiek Evangelical Free Church, 3842 Rural E Winneshiek Rd, Freeport. Family respectfully requests no flowers.

I remember Jason with a smiling face. When living in California, I returned and was shopping in mall in CherryVale and turned to see Jason greeting me with smiling face and calling Mr. Cascio. I was proud of time I was around Jason, I know he is watching over us.

Joyce and Rick,
The breath has been taken out of many of us, as we sadly read about the passing of this obviously amazing young man. Chuck and I both send our deepest condolences to you as you prepare to make your final good-byes to Jason. Please know you will be in our prayers for a very long time, as this loss is probably the most profound loss a parent can suffer. I saw it with my sister and several friends who have experienced the loss of a child. No matter the age of the child, this is your baby. We are so very sorry you are suffering this pain.

Funny how some people touch our lives in such a way, parts of them are forever with us. Even though it has been almost 10 years since we last spoke, there are parts of my everyday life you are forever present in. Your love of music, your kindness, your sense of humor and forever your friendship has given me a love and understanding of art. For all of us on earth you will be so greatly missed, but with each of us you leave part of yourself...until you are joined again by all of your loved ones . .. I hope the peace and beauty you find, is as beautiful as the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel. My prayers and love for all of your family...may you stay in their hearts until you meet again.

Life...so fragile, Loss...so Sudden, Heart...so broken...in the loss of your loved one we are haunted by things we will never understand. Yet the comfort we seek many not come from answers. Please look for comfort in the belief of Love's everlasting connection. May Jason's love always lift you up and may you always find peace in Gods Blessings.

Rick & Joyce, so terribly sorry for your deep loss of Jason. We live in Lakewood CO & didn't even know Jason lived here as well. Sounds like he was a very creative young man happily married with a young family. Our hearts go out to you all. May God comfort your hearts.

I will remember Jason as I knew him at Dakota High School-always smiling, kind, and silly-and most of all such an extremely gifted artist. Even at such a young age, Jason's work was could make any ordinary kid's best effort look like a child's doodle, while with seemingly no effort or time, his was a professional masterpiece! I always admired his work as such a natural talent. Though I haven't seen Jason since early college, I always wondered what became of him and KNEW without a doubt that he would be wildly successful! I am so sorry to hear of his loss. Praying for peace and comfort to his children and family in this most difficult time.
