Russell R. Block 1948—2017
Russell R. Block, 68, of rural Monroe, WI, died Tuesday, August 15, 2017, at his home, surrounded by his family, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was born September 5, 1948, the son of Roy and Dorothy (Beach) Block. Russell was a 1966 graduate of Monroe High School and U.W. Madison Short Course. Russell married the love of his life, Linda Zeal, on September 4, 1971, at St. John's United Church of Christ. Russ was a very proud and productive farmer his entire life. He was awarded outstanding Farm Bureau young farmer in 1975. He also was very proud in 2016, to be recognized at the Wisconsin State Fair for continuing the Block Family Farm for 150 years. He was a member of Clarno Zion United Methodist Church and past member of Green County Farm Bureau. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, traveling and most of all spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Lin of Monroe; mother, Dorothy Block of Monroe; daughters, Krystal (Jason) Zahradka of Monroe, Kerryne (Jeff) Kraemer of Middleton; an AFS daughter, Elin Evja (Odd Hansen) from Norway; grandchildren, Hayden, Kollin, and Kierra Zahradka, Evan and Kameron Kraemer; brother, Gerald (LaVonne) Block of Paulsbo, WA; sister, Beverly (Richard) Wehinger of Monroe; nephews, nieces and many other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his father, Roy.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday, August 21, 2017, at Monroe United Methodist Church, with Rev. Inwha Shon, Rev. Randy Booth and Chaplain Sue Hall officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, August 20, 2017, at Shriner-Hager-Gohlke Funeral Home, 1455 Mansion Dr., and 18th Ave., in Monroe.
