Carol Cherep Obituary
December 30, 1945 - September 25, 2025
Carol Ann (Mentzer) Cherep was born to Clyde and Bernice (Anderson) Mentzer in Lincoln, Nebraska on December 30, 1945. Carol graduated from Lincoln High in 1964 and married Steven Cherep on September 24, 1966.
Carol and Steve spent their first 9 years of marriage working, taking fishing trips to Minnesota, spending time with friends at different clubs, and eventually building their dream house together on an acreage south of Lincoln.
In 1975, Carol and Steve welcomed a daughter, Kelly and in 1977, a son, Brent. Carol was a lover of all animals. She spent many hours in her garden and greenhouse nurturing vegetable plants and flowers to sell at farmer's markets. Later in life, she kept herself occupied as an empty nester with day trading. But above all things, she loved her family and relished every moment with them.
Carol moved to CountryHouse in February 2021 when advancing dementia symptoms made it difficult to care for her at home. She was faithfully visited each and every day by Steve for 4-1/2 years until she passed away on September 25, 2025.
She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Steven; daughter, Kelly (Brandon) Schroer; son, Brent (Kelli) Cherep; grandchildren, Zach (Rebekah) Schroer, Sierra (Malachi) Bornschlegl, Hailey Schroer, Delaney Cherep, Tenley Cherep, and Caleigh Cherep; and great-grandchildren, Leighton Schroer and Selah Bornschlegl.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Gerald Mentzer.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Roper and Sons South Chapel, 3950 Hohensee Dr. Lincoln, NE 68516.
