David Long McEwen
July 13, 1949 - November 12, 2021
David Long McEwen went home to the Lord on November 12, 2021, at age 72. Dave was born to Homer and Madeline on July 13, 1949, in Danbury Connecticut. As a youth he excelled in baseball and football and graduated from Southeast High School in 1967. Dave met his wife Paula at Lefler Junior High. They graduated from Southeast High School in 1967 and were married February 6, 1971. Dave and Paula have three children, Tara, Ryan, and Timothy, eleven grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
In 1979 David cofounded McEwen Odbert Remodeling Company in Lincoln Nebraska. Many houses in and around Lincoln bear the craftsmanship of their 40-year venture. In addition to being a dedicated and loving husband and father, Dave excelled at baseball, racquet ball and golf. He was an avid hunter, loved working in his yard, and could always be seen at his grandkid's activities.
After believing in Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior in 1973, he loved serving the Lord in ministry. Dave had a heart for youth and always looked for ways to serve. In his later years Dave was the golf coach at Lincoln Christian School, working with his teams to improve their golf and build their character.
Dave is preceded in death by his parents, Homer and Madeline, and his brother Bill. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Paula, their children Tara (Dave Arbogast), Ryan (Amy), and Tim; and eleven grandchildren Alexa (Forrest), AJ (Katelyn) and Megan; Josh, Emma (Nathanael), Kate and Maggie; Max (Avery), Jack, Isabelle, and Sophia, as well as two great-grandchildren Stella and Emmitt.

So saddened to learn of Dave's passing. I knew of him when he was a fierce running back at Lincoln Southeast in 1966-67 and in later years I was able to reconnect with him on the golf links at Yankee Hill CC. He was such a great competitor and I loved to try to match strokes with him many times.
Most importantly, I knew him as a devout Christian gentleman who loved the Lord and his great family. He was always more interested in caring for others than himself and it was reflected in the scores of friends and acquaintances that surrounded him.
My sincere condolences to his son Tim and Dave's loving family. Dave's eternal living is a blessing from God's grace through faith and that is a comfort to know!

So sorry for your loss a great man who was a mentor for Christ wherever he was. David and I had some great hunting together while back in Nebraska in our younger years and several weekends playing in Raquetball Tournaments. David was a light to our family in many ways with his faith. Praying for Paula and the family as they walk into the next chapter of Life.

Dave and my relationship was all through school, as far back as classmates at Randolph Elementary and birthday parties. A great personality and wonderful athlete.

Though it has been many years since Dave and I exchanged some fairly hilarious verbal sarcasms about each other done in fun, what lay underneath that humor was the growth of a friendship that in time ran very deep. It was a friendship born from a mutual recognition that we silently shared in sports as boys. And at its core, it was a mobile passion for being the best of who you knew you could be. Mobile, because in games of win and lose, passion can wane when a loss begins to rear its head. In the midst of competition, sometimes you have to go looking for the steel will of that passion in order to win. When Dave and I played a game as boys (baseball or racquetball) with each other as teammates, or against each other as opponents, there would be a moment in the heat of things when I would anticipate the need to go looking. And every single time, I could find it in Dave's eyes. He had a fierce passion for being his best. Sometimes, he made me do better than my best because of such ferociousness. At this age, the memory of that and the sight of Dave in my mind's eye right now moves me to stand with fist raised in celebration of his life. What better gift can one friend give another, if not a passion for doing the best you have to give, be that in a boy's game, or later, in the way you embrace the mobile passion of your entire life? My love to Paula. You have been at Dave's side for most of his life, and I am certain that you know and understand everything I have said here about him in such a lovingly visceral way. Huge hug to you, Paula. Huge.
Love, Tom

I knew Dave through the Nebraska Golf Assn. He was always a true gentleman and he graciously gave a lot of his time to that organization. May he Rest In Peace.
