Horst, fondly known as Hans during his years as a car salesman, was born to Johann and Maria on April 4, 1940, in Viernheim, Germany. He was the youngest of four children. In 1964, Horst met his future wife Donna (Wunderlich). They married the following year in Viernheim and welcomed their first born son Patrick. In 1966, Horst, Donna and Patrick made the move to Cincinnati, Ohio. In 1970, their second son Steve was born. The family moved to Lincoln, Nebraska in 1972. Horst began his long career in the car business shortly after. Horst was employed with Mid-City Toyota, Frohner Auto and Performance/Baxter Toyota until his retirement. He enjoyed selling cars and was recognized with numerous awards for outstanding customer service and high performance sales throughout the years. Horst met so many wonderful people along the way. Many became lifelong friends.
Horst enjoyed coaching soccer for the Sacred Heart Tigers where both his sons played. He took his team to the Catholic Soccer League finals seven years in a row. No one that met Horst forgot his quick wit, infectious smile, and his signature dance moves. He had an enormous heart and a wonderful sense of humor. He also enjoyed and took pride in his yard, spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Horst will fondly be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandpa and friend to all. When his time came, he carried himself with dignity and strength. He will be missed dearly.
Horst is survived by his wife Donna and their two sons Patrick (Karla) Hofmann of Lincoln, Stephen (Delycia) Hofmann of Lincoln, two grandchildren Amber (Alex) Rourke of Lincoln, and Newt (Nicole) Hofmann of Grand Junction, Colorado and five great-grandchildren Bryson, Braydon, and Brenton Rourke; Sahara and Syrus Hofmann; and longtime canine companion Boo. Further survived by nieces and nephews, and other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, sisters, and brother.
