James "Jim" E. Gourlay was born in 1939, to Jack and Geraldine Gourlay and passed away at the age of 85 on August 26th, 2025. Jim was in the first graduating class at Pius X High School and earned his degree in business at UNL. He was also a member of the Beta Theta Pi fraternity. Jim served his country in the United States Army. After graduation he joined his dad in the Gourlay Bros Piano business and after his dad retired Jim took over ownership of the business and was known as a master craftsman at refinishing old pianos. Jim was united in marriage to Mary Curran on August 26th, 1967, and to this union two sons were born. Jim and Mary had a special tradition of taking Tom and Dan on a trip to Colorado every summer from the time they were very young. It was a wonderful and fun time with so many special memories. Jim loved playing golf and enjoyed watching the Huskers and Kansas City Royals. Jim had a wonderful sense of humor and loved making his friends and especially his grandchildren laugh at his jokes. Jim was a member of the Cathedral of The Risen Christ Church where he was an usher for over 25 years. Survivors include his wife, Mary; grandson, Harrison Gourlay (Emma); granddaughters, Hannah Gourlay and fiancé, Hunter Bond and Libby Gourlay; and sisters, Madeline Polesky, Sister Helen Gourlay, and Fran Hansen. Jim was preceded in death by parents; sons, Tom and Dan; and brother, John.

Family will be present 10 to 11 a.m. at church before the Mass. Mass of Christian burial will be held on September 2, at 11 at Cathedral of The Risen Christ Catholic Church.
