James M. Williams, 83, of Lincoln, passed away July 25, 2024.
He was born in Kensington, KS, on October 3, 1940, to mother, Velma C. Williams and father, Delbert F Williams of Smith Center, KS, and eventually moved to Lincoln, NE. Jim graduated from Lincoln Northeast High School in 1959. He attended night classes in computer programing and computer lab at UNL, after returning home from the Marine Corps where he proudly served his country and was honorably discharged in 1964.
He was a member of St. Marks United Methodist Church, The American Legion Post #3, the former Moose Lodge #175, a member of DAV, and UNL Event Staff of Lincoln. He retired from the city of Lincoln Information Services Department in 2002, after 29 years of service. Jim had many hobbies including dancing with his wife, fishing with family and friends, playing cards, and bowling. Jim also worked part time at Hy Vee near his home, checking groceries, and fixing all kinds of things around the home. He also had a little vegetable garden, loved visiting with all the family and watching the grandkids and great grandkids. He also loved camping, trips, tours, and cruises with his family and friends, Lynn and Leland, were among his most treasured and loved memories.
Family members include his second wife, Marlys, stepchildren: Brenda (Kelly) Peschel, of Lincoln, and Linda (Joy) Williamson, of Lincoln; step-grandchildren: Tisha (Marcus) Minzel, Elisha (Dan) Leiting, Cody (Suzy) Williamson, Nolan Peschel and Grahm Peschel; great-grandchildren: Cayden Minzel, Kaia Minzel, Rylan Minzel and Evelynn Williamson; and niece, Janette (Kevin) Roesler.
Preceded in death by his first wife, Marcille Jo (Humphrey) Williams; infant daughter, Martha Marie; sister, Marlene Becker; parents, Delbert F and Velma C. Williams; aunts and uncles.
Visitation will take place at Metcalf Funeral Home, 245 N 27th St. Lincoln, NE, 68503, on Sunday, July 28, 2024, from 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. Burial will take place July 29, 2024, at 9:00 a.m. at Lincoln Memorial Cemetery, 6800 S 14th St. Lincoln, NE, 68512, with Military honors conducted by United States Marine Corps Funeral Honors and American Legion Post #3.
Following the burial a Memorial Service will be held 11:00 a.m. at St. Marks United Methodist Church, 8550 Pioneers Blvd, Lincoln, NE, 68520, with Pastor Wayne Alloway to officiate. Followed by a reception at the church.
