John W. "Jay" Cattle, Jr.

John W. "Jay" Cattle, Jr. was born on May 5, 1943, in Seward, Nebraska to John and Virginia (Clarke) Cattle and passed away on June 20, 2022, in Seward, Nebraska at the age of 79 years, 1 month and 15 days.
Jay was raised in Seward where he attended grade school at Country School District #12 and graduated from Seward High School with the Class of 1961. He then went on to attend the University of Nebraska - Lincoln, graduating with a BS in Business, and began his banking career with the National Bank of Commerce in Lincoln from 1964-1968. Jay moved back to Seward and began working for Cattle National Bank in 1969 and continued up until his passing. Jay was united in marriage to his wife Catherine (Cathy) L. Nantkes on February 4, 1978.
Jay was an active member in the Seward community and served on several local boards and committees. He was passionate about the preservation and sustained growth of Seward County, and the history of the people and businesses who call Seward home. He was a 50-year member of the Nebraska Bankers Association, and a charter member of the Nebraska Token Collectors Club. Jay enjoyed spending time outdoors and took much pleasure in telling hunting and fishing stories from time spent with friends and family.
Although Jay was not one to often compliment others directly, he expressed a great amount of gratitude and admiration to the nurses and staff who helped care for him in his final years. He also had immeasurable pride in past and present employees of Cattle Bank and often bragged about their commitment to the traditions under which the Bank was founded, their customer service, and their focus on the community.
Jay is preceded in death by his son, Darwin Cattle; father, John Cattle, Sr.; niece, Dr. Heather Dews. Survivors cherishing his memory include his wife, Cathy Cattle, Seward; mother, Virginia Cattle, Seward; children, Whitney Cattle, Savannah, MO, Roger and wife, Dr. Alyssa Cattle and their two children, Miles and Micah, Lincoln, NE, John T. and wife, Maggie Cattle, Overland Park, KS; sister and brother-in-law, Becky and Dr. Van Vahle, Seward, and their three children. To this obituary we add our thoughts and memories of a life shared with Jay.
Private family services have been held. Memorial contributions may be made to Seward Scholarship Class of 1961 or Prairie Loft Center. Zabka-Perdue Funeral Home, Seward were entrusted with the arrangements.
