John Tobler Obituary

The most loving husband, dad and grandfather, John Tobler, aged 75, of Las Vegas, Nevada, passed away on January 7, 2023 in Omaha, Nebraska. Born on January 13, 1948, in Omaha, John was adopted by his loving parents John E. Tobler Sr. and Alta Tobler (nee Bank) of Bellevue. A proud Eagle Scout, John spent much of his childhood sharpening his science and math skills, attending NASA camps, and traveling across the U.S. and Canada with his parents on the Union Pacific trains, company where his father worked.

John met the love of his life, Mayda, in Lincoln, NE in 1997, and their life took a vibrant turn when they married and moved to San Diego in 1999.

After retiring as a Senior Enterprise Architect for Caesars Entertainment in Las Vegas, he and his wife, Mayda Obradovic-Tobler, embarked on a journey splitting their time between Las Vegas, cruises around the world, and the sunny beach in Neum, on the Adriatic Sea.

John was an exceptional and gifted human being, wise, kind, giving and always exploring and learning. A globetrotter who visited over 120 countries with his family. A software engineer and math wizz who contributed to development of several technologies and programming languages, including Python. A digital artist "Fracticalizer" concentrating on fractal, mathematical, and ornamental art with many awards. A guitar, piano, violin, drum and yes, sitar virtuoso. A Tai chi master. A science fiction book reviewer for several publishers. An avid astronomer and amateur ham radio operator. A palačinka, Korean food and Hawaiian shirt aficionado. The center of our family's universe. Our rock, our dad, John.

John is survived by his wife Mayda Obradovic-Tobler, daughters Lea Obradovic, Lana Obradovic, Kati Tobler, Val Stricklin, Tatjana Cuk, son-in-law David Candler, and granddaughters Liv Candler, Ruby Tobler and Penelope Stricklin. A cremation service was held at Chappell of Memories in Omaha on January 11, 2023. In accordance with John's wishes, his remains will be buried at sea in a private family ceremony at a later date. May his spirit keep traveling and exploring the world.

I just found out and am overwhelmed with emotions! It never occurred to me that his death was the reason why I could not get in contact with John anymore. He was truly on of a kind. One of the most well-read people I knew, a great all around musician, passionate, caring and fun.
We spent countless hours talking and playing music, often meeting at midnight at the fountain on UNL campus, playing until 2am. Afterward we often went to my place on 11th street and played some more, and once in a while it was so amazing, that we called it "musical magic moments", when true musical magic happened. I can still hear some of the melodies and even sometimes play them now. Unfortunately, the only recording with John I have is our "Friends, long after the songs are gone" tape.
I remember well when we found out that we had yet another thing in common, and that was: we both *loved* ice cream. I'll never forget his expression when he said "Me TOO", and we organized what he called an "Ice Cream Vaganza".
John proofread my MS thesis and PhD dissertation and was one of the few people that actually understood what was in them.
I miss him, our conversations, his laugh, and I can also still feel the pain when he went through difficult times.
John will always have a big place in my heart,
Axel
