Joshua D. Lux

Joshua D. Lux was born in North Platte, NE on November 2, 1979, to David and Lynn (Atherton) Lux.

From his earliest days he was a lover of movies, music and sports. He had a quick wit and a determined soul. He was a caretaker, personally and professionally, working in and managing group homes for autistic individuals and as a shared living provider for almost two decades. He married his wife, Nina, in 2014 and took his responsibilities to her and children Becca, Ethan, Aidan very seriously. In 2016, they welcomed their son, Lincoln. After a difficult period with several pregnancy losses, Josh reorganized his life to focus on his mental and physical health. It was his top priority to be a steady, active and involved presence for those he loved. He walked miles a day and looked forward to yearly trips to Colorado to hike. He continued to walk, climb, seek and joke for as long as his body allowed- much longer than his doctors anticipated. Josh passed away surrounded by loved ones in his Lincoln, NE home at 11:11am on January 31, 2026.

He was preceded in death and welcomed by his grandparents; Ethel and John Lux, Connie and Richard Atherton; Daughter; Nova Lux; uncle; Kevin Pogue; and cousin; Aaron Atherton

He leaves a legacy of love and care present in all he loved and who loved him, including his wife Nina; children Rebecca, Ethan, Aidan, and Lincoln; parents Lynn and David Lux; and mother-in-law Virginia (Brent) Cole; sisters; Lisa (Grant Shangreaux) Lux, Emily (Zach Cutler) Lux; brother-in-law Tony (Heather Barnes) Rendel; nieces and nephews; Frances and Cedar Shangreaux Lux, Gabe and Aubrey Rendel; and Lola Rendel-Barnes; and many aunts and uncles and cousins.

A Celebration Gathering will be held from 5-7 pm Thursday, February 5, 2026, Roper and Sons Midtown Chapel, 4300 O St.

Memorial service: 10:00 am Friday, February 6, 2026, Saint Paul United Methodist Church, 1144 M St. Josh would want you to dress comfortably and if you are so inclined, wear your favorite artist, movie, sports team or Husker gear.

In lieu of flowers, please direct memorials for his son, Lincoln, to his wife Nina.
