Kathy Ann Queen

July 3, 1944 - May 8, 2021

Kathy Ann Queen, age 76, of Somerset, KY, passed away on Saturday, May 8, 2021 at UK Medical Center. She was born on July 3, 1944 in Lincoln, NE to the late Kedrick Young and Clara Knaub Young. Kathy was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She grew up in Lincoln, Nebraska with her brother, Rick, and sister, Kristie. She met the love of her life, Ralph (Bud), at the University of Nebraska – Lincoln, where they both attended college. Bud and Kathy married on May 2, 1964, and had three children together: Ralph Bradley, David, and Cynthia.

Kathy was thoughtful, kind, funny, loyal, tenacious, and adventurous. Her good-humored spirit was best displayed in her infectious laugh and warm smile. From gardening to camping to boating to hiking, Kathy loved the outdoors – a trait she passed on to her children and grandchildren. Over the years Kathy and Bud very much loved all of their dogs along with the excitement and joy they brought. A talented artist and craftsperson, Kathy expressed her creativity through quilting.

Kathy is survived by her loving husband, Bud, her sons, Brad (and Karen) Queen of Keller, TX and David (and Jennifer) Queen of Ann Arbor, MI; and daughter, Cynthia M. Navarro of Lenexa, KS; six grandchildren, Elaina Queen, Ryan Queen, Scarlett King, Vivian King, Sophia Navarro and Emilio Navarro; one brother, Kedrick (and Lu) Young of Omaha, NE; one sister, Kristie (and Dan) Bodeman of Keller, TX; two sisters-in-law, Margaret (and Paul) Kimmins of Omaha, NE and Barbara Queen of Lincoln, NE; one nephew, Eric Kimmins of Omaha; and two nieces, Kimberly Dolan of Kansas City and Ingrid Kimmins of Omaha. Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ralph (and Virginia) Queen.

A Celebration of Life service with a gathering of family and friends will be held on Wednesday, May 12, 2021 at 2:15pm at Pisgah Presbyterian Church in Somerset with a Memorial service to follow. My sincere sympathy to all of the family. Kathy's mother's cowbell still hangs on my front patio as a happy reminder of the many years we shared as next-door neighbors to the Young family, in Lincoln, NE, as Kathy and her siblings were growing up. God bless!
