Louise Lane Obituary

Louise B. Lane 90, passed peacefully away on Sunday, March 2, 2008 in Grand Rapids, Mich. Born in Mayville, Wisc., Louise earned a B Sc from the University of Wisconsin, Madison. She was an outstanding student, achieving membership in Mortar Board, Phi Beta Kappa and Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society. In 1941 Louise met and married Leslie C. Lane, Jr., and moved to Stamford, Conn. There they raised four children, Leslie, Rosemary, Patricia and Philip. Louise was a longtime Girl Scout leader and an active participant in AAUW, the League of Women Voters and various PTAs. She delighted in children of all ages and was mentor to many. She was a master bridge player, an inveterate bargain-hunter and garage-saler, and a fervent champion of the underdog. Louise and Les retired to her hometown of Mayville in 1973, where they lived until Les' health began to fail. In 1989 they moved to Lincoln, where Les passed away in 1997. Louise spent her final years in an eldercare community in Rockford, Mich.
She is survived by three children, Leslie (Judy) Lane, Lincoln; Rosemary Anderson, Grand Rapids, Mich.; and Patricia Lane (David Grodsky), Morris, N.Y.; six grandchildren, Gillian, Aaron, and Zoe Anderson, Nathan Lane (Sara Michael), Zachary Lane and Lorna (Simon) Corbyn; and by five great-grandchildren; two brothers and many nieces and nephews. Her son, Philip, preceded her in death in 1971.
