Mary Leslie (Lewis) Walker

July 18, 2001

Mary Leslie Walker (Lewis) passed away July 18, 2001 at her home in Lincoln, NE after a 7-year battle with brain cancer. Mary was born in Omaha, NE to John "Jack" Lewis Jr and Patricia (Lehner) Lewis. She graduated from Marian HS in Omaha, NE in 1966. After high school she attended Nursing School. On March 8, 1969, she married Ron Walker, with whom she has two daughters.

Mary loved her 44 years as a nurse, especially her time working for Drs. Larry Bausch, Phillip McNeely and Jerrold Black. Mary wanted to follow in her grandmother's (Genevieve Lehner) footsteps to become a nurse, hearing of her grandmother's experience as a nurse in WWI. She enjoyed seeing her patients over the years and getting to know their families.

Mary was an avid Husker football fan. She had season tickets for over 40 years with her sister Trish and then her daughters. Getting to see the Huskers win a National Championship in the Fiesta Bowl was a highlight. A devout Catholic, Mary grew up in Omaha attending St. Pius and Marian High School. She remained close to many friends from Marian and loved everything about being a Marian girl. Mary loved to read, go to yard sales and her beloved cocker spaniels.

Mary is survived by her husband, Ron Walker (Lincoln), daughters Pam Canavan (Steve) of Polk City, Iowa and Katie Allen of Lincoln, sister Susie Kurtenbach (Ed) of Omaha, brother Tom Lewis (Sheila) of Treynor, Iowa, grandchildren Harper and Margeaux Allen of Lincoln and Olivia and Walker Canavan of Polk City, Iowa. She is preceded in death by her parents, brothers Michael Lewis, William Lewis and sister Patricia Frazell.

My sympathy and prayers for comfort to Mary´s family. Mary and I worked together many years ago at a surgical office. She always showed kindness and compassion to all as well as a wonderful sense of humor. Many will miss her smiles.
