I struggle to find the words to describe the sadness and loss upon hearing about Red's passing. I've known him my whole life and he was not only wonderful, caring, and funny, but he was a father figure to me. I never met a person who didn't love Red's insight and humor. I feel fortunate that I got to see him a few months before he passed and he met my "new" family (I'm getting married)-who loves him as well.I just wish there could be more times to spend with him. Barb, I'm sorry for your loss and know that Red will be sorely missed and ALWAYS loved!

Barb, I only met you and Red once, but you both made me feel like family. I am so sorry for your loss. I wish I could have gotten to know Red better but I am very grateful that I did get the chance to meet him. You are in my thoughts and prays daily.

Barb, Shane and Scott, Red has always been very close in my heart and there has hardly been a day go by when I have not thought of Red and I would always have a smile and chuckle when I would think of him and his jokes. He was a great friend and a person with a wonderful, caring heart. Barb, with friends such as Red's and yours - you would always be able to share happiness and you are never alone in sorrow. Barb-
It has been years since I saw you but I worked for a long time with Red at KFOR in Lincoln (where I still work today) and like everyone, thought the the world of him. As a matter of fact, a couple months ago, I decided I was going to try to track him down and find out how he was doing; what he was doing. I had no idea that he was ill and only wish I had followed my strong instincts at that time. I will always remember Red's wonderful sense of humor, his ability to sell, and his love of family. Those were especially wonderful days at KFOR and Stuart Broadcasting - and he was a huge part of that.
I send you my deepest and sincerest sympathy.

My thoughts and prayers are with your family during this difficult time. I was a classmate of Shane's in elementary through high school. While I have not kept in touch, I just wanted to send my condolences and let you know that I will say special prayers for your family and for Mr. Abels. May God comfort you now and always.
With my sincerest sympathies,

I worked with Red at KLMS Radio Station. I was the receptionist. I will never forget his zest for life. He was never without a great joke or a smile.

Dear Barb and Family;
As long-time friends of Red from the "Good Old Days" at Spectrum Recording Studios, we would like to offer our sincere sympathies to you all. Red could most properly be described as a "good guy". That's a term that probably is best understood by other males, but it is also the finest obituary that can be given to any man. His sense of humor and ready laughter was a never ceasing source of delight to everyone who knew him and we will miss that greatly. I've been told that laughter makes you live longer. If that is indeed the case, then countless people across the country have had their lives enriched and extended by the gifts and wit of such a fine man. I can only wish, that we could have all returned the favor more. We mourn your loss and share your sorrow. The world will, from now on, not be as comfortable and enjoyable a place to occupy without Red to show us how to accept any fate with grace and the sunniest of outlooks. We will miss him. As "ggod guys" come, Red was the best and you can take pride in that for all time. We are proud to have called him our friend.

Dear Barb & Family, I am so sorry to hear about Paul. I haven't seen you in years, but you and Paul always loved my parents Ed & Velma Hester so much. I remember the good times we had in Belmont and at St. Lukes church. Barb, I will call you. My aunt, Ethel Spahn sends her heartfelt sympathy to you and your family also. Mom and Dad are both gone now. Take care and know you are in our thoughts and prayers. Janet Hester Nelson
