Richard Geier Obituary

Richard "Rick" J. Geier

Richard "Rick" John Geier passed away on January 28, 2025. He was born in Lincoln, Nebraska on November 13, 1956 to Richard and Rae (Futcher) Geier.

Rick grew up in the Meadowlane neighborhood and graduated from Lincoln East High School in 1975. He cherished his childhood and the life-long family friendships. Rick attended UNL where he was a proud member of the University of Nebraska Marching Band. After graduating, Rick started teaching marketing at Fremont High School. This led him to a career at the Texas State Teachers Association and eventually to Washington DC working for the National Education Association. One of Rick's proudest accomplishments was being a co-founder and the manager of the Read Across America Program, supporting children behind in reading. He moved back to Lincoln to be close to family and friends in 2011 after retiring.

Rick faced many medical challenges through the years with such a bright positive attitude. He loved laughing, music, family, cooking, trips, and anything chocolate. Rick had a gift of making others feel good; whether he was asking "how's your day going?" or telling a joke or sharing piece of chocolate. Rick always cared about others. He will be greatly missed by all that loved him and cared for him.

Rick also really enjoyed being an uncle to his nieces and nephews. And in his last days, he graciously became known as Uncle Rick to all those who cared for him.

Rick is survived by his father, Richard 'Dick' Geier (Rosalie) of Lincoln; sister, Lauri (Rod) Rosenbohm of Lincoln; brother, Jeff (Sandi) Geier of Lincoln; sister, Julie Solberg of Lincoln; aunts, uncles, and cousins. He also leaves behind his nephews and niece: Matthew Geier, Jon (McKenzie) Geier of Lincoln, Justin Rosenbohm (Samantha Berry) of Boston, Jordan Rosenbohm of Omaha, Derek Solberg (Lacey Homolka) of Lincoln, Michael Solberg (Kally Werning) of Omaha, Nicole Solberg of Lincoln; and great niece and nephew, Lilly and William (Jon & McKenzie) Geier of Lincoln.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Rae (Futcher) Geier; grandparents; aunts; uncles; and cousins.

A private family ceremony will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in Rick's name to: The University of Nebraska Foundation, UNL Band Program Fund. Gifts can be made via mail, ATTN: Barbara Kohler, or online: https://nufoundation.org/fund/01037470/
