Scott Ballentine Obituary

Scott T Ballentine

August 28, 1955 - June 20, 2022

Scott Ballentine, friend to all and stranger to none, passed away on June 20, 2022 at the age of 66. He was born August 28, 1955, to Earl and Vera (Jackie) Ballentine of Lincoln NE. Scott graduated from Lincoln Southeast HS in 1974, where you can still hear his laughter and stories throughout the hallways. His endless energy, charm and welcoming spirit made all students feel included. Scott's early love for journalism started in High School, where he was on the Clarion staff, a class officer and Student Council.

After High School, Scott attended Nebraska Wesleyan. Once he decided to graduate with a journalism degree, he transferred to University Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL). He loved UNL and was proud to be an alumnus. Scott was active on campus, part of student government life, and a member of ATO Fraternity. Scott's desire to be active in politics led him to Washington DC after graduation from UNL. He worked for the late US Senator David Karnes in 1987 and assisted in event planning for a distinguished DC catering business. Scott made endless dear friends and contacts throughout his time in DC, and he had the unique ability to gather friends from all walks of life and political parties.

Scott returned to Lincoln to assist with his parent's health and similar to DC, he became active in the community. Scott organized special events for nonprofit organizations and friends, but his dedication to special events for the Nebraska Aids Project was a huge impact. Who else could talk the cast of Rent at the Lied Center and the following year, Lily Tomlin, into hosting an after-party fundraiser for the NE Aids Project? He was larger than life and made all of us feel like we were his best friend. We miss you, Scott, and all the joy and laughter you brought to so many.

Scott is preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Jackie Ballentine, and his beloved dog, Toby. He is survived by his cousins and many close friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held on August 12, 2022, at First Plymouth Church, 2000 D St, Lincoln NE. In lieu of flowers, memorials to UNL College of Journalism, First Plymouth Church or Nebraska Wesleyan. Please visit the Butherus, Maser & Love Funeral Home website at bmlfh.com.
