Stephen Roth Obituary

Stephen D. Roth

March 12, 1955 - October 18, 2024

We write with heavy hearts to share the news of the passing of a truly remarkable individual, Stephen D. Roth. Steve was born on March 12, 1955, in Neligh, Nebraska, and passed away on October 18, 2024. Steve was a lover of life, a beacon of light and laughter, and a pillar of strength. His loyal nature, heartfelt humor, and humble spirit were infectious, touching everyone who crossed his path. Steve's life was a tapestry of rich and endless stories, woven together by his love for sports, fishing, music, and, above all, connecting with people. Each thread of this tapestry tells tales of a man who found joy in the simplest things and cherished the company of his loved ones.

Born and raised in Nebraska, Steve graduated from Pope John XXIII High School in Elgin, NE, and went on to receive a degree in Journalism from the University of Nebraska in Lincoln. Steve spent a lifetime dedicating himself to the things he loved. His curious nature, love of sports, and genuine interest in people's stories led him to a fulfilling career in Radio and Sports Broadcasting in Nebraska. For over 20 years, he was proudly the voice of the Nebraska State High School Wrestling Tournament and the MC for the Nebraska High School Sports Hall of Fame. Steve later worked at the Swanson Russell Agency in Lincoln, Nebraska, and finally the State of Nebraska Department of Agriculture. Steve's dedication to his craft and his unique ability to connect with people made him a beloved figure everywhere he went.

Steve's loving spirit is carried on by his children, Amelia Roth and Mason Roth; his sister, Patt Harper and her partner, Randy Hindman; and his brother-in-law, Jim Buhman. He is preceded in death by his parents, Orlandis and Marie Roth; and his sister, Karen Buhman. Steve's family and friends were his universe, and he loved them fiercely. His loss has left a void that can never be filled, and he will be deeply missed. A service and celebration of life in honor of Steve will be held on Sunday, November 3, 2024, at 11:00 am at the Colonial Chapel Funeral Home, located at 5200 R Street. A livestream of the service will be available for anyone who is unable to attend in person. As we gather to remember Steve, we will celebrate not just his life, but the way he lived it – full of laughter, love, and an unwavering dedication to those he held dear. Worked with Steve at 1400 KLIN in 1990....helped him in the sports department! He was a super guy with a sense of humor. RIP Steve. We will miss you!

My sympathy to Amelia and Mason and to Pat Harper and her partner, Randy and to his friends. Our families lost touch as we all scattered after our "growing- up years" and our parents were gone. I wish I had known Steve and kept in touch. My sympathy. May you all know God's compassion and support in the days ahead.
