William Peterson Obituary

William "Bill" C. Peterson, Jr.

March 31, 1943 - February 15, 2026

William "Bill" C. Peterson, Jr., 82, of Lincoln, Nebraska, passed away on February 15, 2026. He was born on March 31, 1943, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to William and Ruth (McCord) Peterson.

Bill was a lifelong educator, serving as both a teacher and principal. Throughout his career, he impacted the lives of countless students and staff. He had a bright spirit and a steady uplifting nature. He was supportive of his family, always encouraging his children and grandchildren to try their hardest and to find the light even on days that were difficult.

Known as a fun-loving and a welcoming generous host, Bill was always up for a good time. He enjoyed traveling, especially to warm, sunny destinations. A man of many talents, he was a gifted singer and a devoted crossword enthusiast. With a twinkle in his eye, he often reminded those he loved that he was "handsome and charming" - a sentiment that never failed to bring a smile to those around him.

Bill is survived by his wife, Mary; daughters, Mary (Joel) Carstens and Aubyn Peterson; sister, Karen Simopoulos and her children, Eleni, Doty, and Billy and their families; stepchildren, Keri Applebee (Tom Ahlschwede), and Tesha (Bingo) Bender; grandchildren, Abigail and James Carstens, Jakob and Nik Ahlschwede, Daxx and Beaux Bender; brother-in-law, Brad (Susie) Heiliger and their children, Ben and Emma; and the mother of his children, Judy Peterson.

At Bill's request, a private gathering will be held at his home. Memorials may be directed to the donor's choice.

I have missed interacting with Bill in the pool at Madonna. I know his health had declined and was unable to attend in recent years.
We always had great conversations that made the time go by quickly.
Our hearts are sad, but, Bill is no longer suffering.
Your family will be in my prayers.
