Douglas C. Sorenson

Douglas C. Sorenson, age 83, passed away Friday, September 26, 2025, at home after two years of being ill and in heart failure. Doug was born in Racine, on February 4, 1942, son of the late Edwin and Norma (Nee: Stratman) Sorenson. He married his high school sweetheart, Susan M. Wiechmann on April 4, 1964.

His career in Information Services started in December 1961. He had just completed a three-month program at MBTI (Manpower Business Training Institute). Upon completion of the program, he joined J.I. Case as a tab operator at the computer center at Case South. For the next fourteen years, he served in various positions in data processing ranging from Tab operator, computer operator, operations supervisor, programmer and programmer / analyst. In 1975, he took a position as a computer systems auditor in the Case Corporate Audit Department. For the next ten years, he performed computer systems audits at various Case Computer Centers in the United States, England, France, Germany and Brazil. In 1985 he joined the Case Corporate Computer Center working in hardware and software resource contract management. In October 2001, specific aspects of Information Technology at CNH (Case New Holland), including his position, were outsourced to IBM. He continued his work on the CNH account (with IBM) until February, 2004, at which time he retired.

He was a volunteer in Racine's Habitat for Humanity for multiple years and also participated in the St. Bernard Project in New Orleans rebuilding homes after Katrina. His interests include being a nature photographer, especially of waterfalls and birds. He and his wife, Susan, an artist, are founding members of the Artist Gallery on Main St. in Racine. Camping with his wife and family, and later canoeing, kayaking, and hiking with his wife, traveling around the State with Environmental groups exploring the rivers of Wisconsin. He loved visiting the International Crane Foundation in Baraboo, Wisconsin and attending the Indy 500 Trials yearly.

He is survived by his wife, Susan; and children, Ann (Steve) Neerdaels, Mark (Kim) Sorenson and Greta (Bill) Schumacher; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Robert.

A Memorial Service celebrating Doug's life will be held at 5 p.m., at the funeral home, Tuesday, October 7, 2025. Relatives and friends are welcome to meet with the family for Visitation, Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. until time of service. In honor of Doug's interests, memorials to Racine Habitat for Humanity and Rawhide Youth Services-New London have been suggested by the family.
