Edwin Vobeda Obituary

RACINE - Edwin Vobeda, 94, passed away on Thursday, December 9, 2010, at United Hospital Systems in Kenosha. He was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa on March 14, 1916, the son of Joseph and Rose (nee: Stefek) Vobeda. On August 17, 1940, Edwin was united in marriage to Mildred 'Millie' Mauer, who preceded him in death on July 27, 1992. Ed was united in marriage to Ayleen Love Nelson on November 9, 1996, in Racine at Second Presbyterian Church. Ed received a Citation by the Senate from the State of Wisconsin on October 22, 1993, recognizing many of his accomplishments. He was recognized for surviving the depression by working for the Civilian Conservation Corps near Danbury; combining common sense with hard work and night classes, along with correspondence classes, he accumulated more than 5,000 hours of additional education. Ed opened his own machine shop, Vobeda Machine and Tool in Racine in 1950. He sold the company at retirement in 1986, after 37 years of operation. He received the Lifetime Excalibur Award from the Wisconsin Division of the American Cancer Society for his contributions in memory of his wife, Millie. Ed established a trust fund in memory of his wife, Millie, to be awarded at his passing. Ed found great enjoyment in golfing, fishing, hunting, and spending time with his family, children, and grandchildren. His personal greatest accomplishment was acquiring his pilot's license and instrument flight rating and purchasing his own airplane. Ed is survived by his wife, Ayleen; son, Glen (fiancée, Carla Neveri) of Racine; daughter and son-in-law, Lynn (David) Martin of Valders; six grandchildren, Cheryl, Brian, and Karrie Vobeda and Tony, Heather, and Jason Martin; great- grandchildren, Jimi, Cayla, Joni, Amber, Isaiah, Justin, and Joshua; step-children, Julane (Larry) Lamberton and David (Diane) Nelson; step-granddaughters, Michelle Stahl and Kimberley (Ron) Hunter; great- grandchildren, Trinity, Roni, Davin, Hunter, Brody, and Madison Stahl; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Harvey (Virginia) Mauer of Racine. Also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and dear friends. Ed was preceded in death by his brothers, Milo (Melba) Vobeyda and Richard (Darlene) Vobejda; and great- grandson, Nicholas Martin. Funeral services for Ed will be held at Atonement Lutheran Church, 2915 Wright Avenue, on Tuesday, December 14, 2010, at 11 a.m. with Rev. Dr. Warren Williams officiating. Edwin will be laid to rest next to his first wife, Millie, at Graceland Cemetery following services. There will be a visitation at the church on Tuesday from 9 a.m. until service time at 11 a.m. Memorials in Ed's name may be directed to the Aurora Sinai Medical Center, Regional Parkinson's Center, 945 North 12th Street, Suite 4602, Milwaukee, Wis. 53233. A very special thank you to his wife, Ayleen and daughter, Lynn and son, Glen for their devoted compassion and neverending care, doing their best to give comfort and support during his illness.
