Gail Julius Obituary

Gail Julius, born on November 28, 1947, in Oak Park, Ill. passed away peacefully on the morning of October 20th. She was surrounded by the love of her family and lived a life full of warmth, creativity, and joy.

Gail spent her early years in Cincinnati and later moved to Lake Forest in the 11th grade, where she graduated from Lake Forest High School in 1966. She maintained friendships from both Cincinnati and Lake Forest throughout her life.

Gail pursued her passion for art by attending Kent State University and then earning her master's degree from Western Illinois. While raising her family and teaching in the Racine Unified School District, she and her husband Douglas Julius (of Racine, WI.) also ran a charming bed and breakfast, on the 1500 block of College ave. creating a warm and welcoming environment for guests. Later in life, she found another true love and married Norm Thompson after four wonderful years of companionship. In retirement, Gail and Norm spent winters in Port St. Lucie and summers at their lake cabin in Colebrook, Connecticut.

Gail was an outgoing, positive soul who never sat still, always joining clubs, meeting with friends, or working on crafts at home. If she wasn't out and about, she was in her craft room making photo albums and dolls for her beloved grandchildren, Gavin and Madison Julius. She will be remembered as a a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend who brought creativity, warmth, and joy to everyone she met. She is survived by her two sons Steven and Brad Julius, with his two children Gavin and Madison, her sister Claudia Holt and her children Laney and Tyler Holt of Cape Coral, FL. Her brother, Brent Allen and Wife Kathy two children Brandon Allen and Brittany Allen Veal.

I spent a lot of time with Gail and friends. She was always a great person to have in company. Always the wildcard of the group. Good memories.

Gail was my art teacher at Starbuck, and later in life she often visited me when I owned Rooster's Restaurant. She was a wonderful person that will be missed greatly. My condolences to her family.

Gail moved from Cincinnati to Lake Forest her junior year in high school & I moved from the same area of Ohio to Lake Forest our senior year where we met & became forever friends. Then we both went to Kent State before we went our separate ways, but never lost touch; I had talked with her many times just this year. Her obituary is so beautifully written & describes her perfectly & makes me smile throughout it. She was a light in my life & my memories of her - her smile, her laugh, her warmth - will be with me forever. Bliss to you, my friend.

I am so sad to hear of Gail´s passing. She was an extremely supportive teacher and later friend to my daughter. She and I connected many times at school, art shows, Theater Guild, and through chats on Facebook. I also knew her husband, Doug, both in my children´s school years and as my student teacher supervisor when I changed careers. They were both such extraordinary people. Our world is a little less lovely without them. My sympathy to her loved ones.
