Saw your picture in the NYT. Guessing you are his sister or a close friend. Bosco was the name of our family's Golden Retriever who has passed on a long with our other 2 Golden Retrievers. I hear they wait for us in Heaven :-)
.Memorial Day was always a special commemoration day for our family. My wife would make an amazing cake each year commemorating a famous battle. The ripples of our life spread out to touch so many others. Hope you and family feel the ripples from him often. 15 years now, wow.

I came up to Wisconsin and Great Lakes, from Lejeune, and noticed that I just missed the 15th anniversary of the death of your Marine. I lost guys, too, and wanted to let you know that your Marine is not forgotten. I feel the pain, and wanted to extend my condolences.

To the family of Lance Cpl. Jacob Meinert:
The Fort Snelling Memorial Chapel Foundation will be honoring your loved one at the non-denominational Christian Memorial Day Remembrance worship service at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, 26 May 2013. We will remember the casualties of the Global War on Terrorism from Minnesota … and the bordering states of Iowa, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wisconsin. Outside of the historic Fort Snelling Veterans Memorial Chapel will be a “Memorial Garden” filled with some 300 white crosses bearing the names of the war dead … including your loved one.
The Memorial Garden will be encircled with larger white crosses representing all of the wars of our nation's history and give honor to all who have served in the United States Armed Forces and made the ultimate sacrifice for the freedoms we enjoy today. Wreaths will be placed at the foot of each 8-foot cross bearing the number of U.S. Service Members killed in each of America's conflicts.
I would like to extend to your family an invitation to honor us with your presence at worship as we pay tribute to the sacrifice made by your service member and family. Our pastor, Kenneth L. Beale, Jr., will preach a message entitled, “Freedom:Free, but Costly.” At the conclusion of the worship hour, all of the congregation will be invited to silently pay their respects at the garden and there place poppies at each of the crosses. A Memorial Rifle Squad of the Fort Snelling National Cemetery will fire vollies as the US flag is lowered to half-staff and Taps is played. Following your visit to the Memorial Garden, your family is invited to attend an informal reception (weather permitting) outside of the Chapel. The Memorial Garden will remain until 5:00 p.m. on Monday, 27 May (Memorial Day).
As this Christian worship service has traditionally been well attended, we would be happy to reserve seating for you and yours. To do so, kindly call (651/286-7296) and leave a voice message indicating your veterans' name and the number of persons attending. For more information about the Foundation or driving directions to the historic chapel at Fort Snelling, visit our website at: www.fortsnellingmcf.org Special rates for nearby hotels will be available. For more information call (651/286-7296) or email the office ([email protected]) and leave your name and contact information.
Also, beginning at dusk (8:30 p.m.) on Saturday 25 May through dawn (6:30 a.m.) on Sunday, 26 May, a “Prayer Vigil for Peace” will be held in the sanctuary of the Chapel. You are invited to stop by, light a candle and place it at the foot of your loved one's cross in the Memorial Garden … and then enter the Chapel for prayer.
If you are not able to attend, we pray that you would find comfort in knowing that our prayers are with you and all of the fallen heroes.
Respectfully,

To the Family of Jacob Meinert,
Not a day has gone by over the past year when I did not think of Jacob and all of the Brothers we lost in Afghanistan. Jacob was a great Marine, a wonderful Friend to many and a person who could always bring a smile to someone’s face. My heartfelt sympathy goes to all of Jacob’s friends and family. I consider myself fortunate to have served alongside such a great Marine!

Prayer for Peace
Lord, make me an instrument of your peace;
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
Where there is injury, pardon;
Where there is doubt, faith;
Where there is despair, hope;
Where there is darkness, light;
And where there is sadness, joy.
O Divine Master,
Grant that I way not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
To be understood, as to understand;
To be loved, as to love;
For it is in giving that we receive,
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
And it is in dying that that we are born to eternal life.
Amen

To all who knew and Loved Jacob Meinert, I had the great pleasure of working with Jacob in Bravo Company 1st Battalion, 3rd Marines. It is with the deepest sympathy that I say that I am so sorry for your loss. Jake was a great person, friend and Marine. His carefree attitude brought a smile to the face of every person he came into contact with. I know that no amount of words can change what happened but know that Jake is looking down over all of us and keeping a safe hand on his brothers in Afghanistan. I wish your family all the best.

For you every single soldier
Those who served so honorable
Your life was forever altered
While I’m home safe and free
I stand with grateful admiration
I stand respectful and so proud
I know I’m only a civilian
And I don’t even know if it’s allowed
But I salute you; allow me the honor
to salute you with permission let me say
Even though I hold no rank know that from my heart
My humble gratitude comes from the deepest part.
I salute you.
For those missing in action;
for those who didn’t make it home.
I know you’re in God’s presence you are not alone.
For every neatly folded flag;
for every shattered family
I will do the only thing I know to dignify your memory.
I salute you, allow me the honor
to salute you with permission let me say
even though I hold no rank know that from my heart
my humble gratitude comes from the deepest part.

My dear Krista, when my son Jeremy(Jake's schoolmate) told me about this neither of us could believe it, even though you and the family are miles from around the corner from our home. I still thought about the times we both shared in taking Jake and Jeremy to school,so me seeing this really hurts my heart because me,you,jake and jeremy had that connection when we took turns carpooling our boys to school, Jack would always speak when he'd get in the car with myself and Jeremy, to some that may seem small but to me it showed that he was a very respectful young child,even before we carpooled you and i had conversations on different things and i really did miss your family when you all moved away,we tried to stay in touch through emails and shared conversations about the boys. Krista, my heart and sorrow goes out to you and the rest of the family.
Respectfully Submitted,

The Final Salute
“Brothers in Arms”, Military men and women down through the centuries, have traditionally exchanged “Hand Salutes” as a sign of recognition and as a way to render courtesy and respect one to another.
This “Hand Salute” is the last that we shall render to LCpl Jacob Meinert our Brother in Arms. To his family it symbolizes the love and respect that we have for Jacob. And to Jacob it is rendered as a symbol of honor and gratitude to thank him for the ultimate sacrifice he made for his country while opposing enemy forces in Afghanistan. No greater love is shown than a man lay down his life for another. Jacob, you are a brave Marine Warrior, a true Patriot and a national Hero. With your passing, our Country has lost a National Treasure. We bid you a sad farewell. You will be dearly missed from among our ranks. Be at ease. Rest in Peace.
On behalf of the 1,353 members of Lowe-McFarlane Post 14 of the American Legion in Shreveport, Louisiana, I extend our sympathies and our condolences to Jacob’s family and loved ones. Semper Fi !

The price, LCpl Jacob Meinert and his family have paid for this country and for freedom, Will Never Be Forgotten. Please know how Deeply Sorry I am to learn of the loss of your Brave Young Marine.
There will Never Be Enough Ways to Humbly Thank these Young Heroes for their Sacrifices, my brother among them. Killed in action in Vietnam in 1967.
