Marjorie Coughlin Obituary
Marjorie Helen (Petersen) Coughlin passed away on November 4, 2025, at the age of 95 in her home in Black Earth, Wisc., surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Racine, Wisc., on August 2, 1930, to Arthur and Esther Petersen and had lived in the area all of her life and moved to Black Earth after her husband died nine years ago. She was a graduate of Wm. Horlick High School, attended UW Parkside and graduated from St. Luke's Hospital School of Nursing. In a beautiful, candlelit service on September 2, 1949, she married Wayne R. Coughlin at the Franksville Methodist Church and in the same church in 1999; they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary surrounded by their family and friends including her 96 year old father. Marjorie worked for over 20 years as a registered nurse for Dr. Wm. D. Haedike in Union Grove. She loved being a nurse and will be fondly remembered by the many lives she touched in her nurse's role and for her many years of caring for elderly relatives. She was a former member of St. Luke's Alumni Association, Racine Women's Club, United Methodist Women and the Raymond Country Quilters. She was also known for her presentations of antique beads and enjoyed repairing pearls and beads for several Racine Jewelry Stores. In her later life she continued to make jewelry and loved having "beading" parties with her great granddaughters! Her family was the main love of her life and she is survived by her four children, son, Thomas (Catherine) of Sturtevant; daughters, Jan (Gary) Damaschke of Black Earth, Faith Cobey of Black Earth and Joan (Tom) Szymczak of Franksville. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren, Matthew (Heather) Coughlin of Illinois, Steve (Marisa) Coughlin of Colorado, Sarah (Nathan) Bilodeau of Kenosha, Kate (Ryan) Doescher of Black Earth, Aleah (Mike) Cerniglia of Cross Plains, Ben Coughlin of Sturtevant, Christina (Michael) Ryan of Black Earth, Curtis (Mallory) Szymczak of Franksville, Ethan Szymczak of Florida and Evie (Alex) Hintz of Franklin. Marjorie was further blessed with 15 great-grandchildren, Lillian, Ryan, Cali, Brooks, Ava, Kylie, Jillian, Michael, Jada, Jackson, Annabelle, Charles, Noelle, Raymond and Louis. She loved preparing Christmas gifts for all those grand/great grandchildren. It was always quite a job for her and took her months to complete the project! She is also survived by her sister, Dawn (Randy) Jardee of Waterford; sister-in-law, Dorothy Rognerud of Colorado, sister-in-law, Dorothy Petersen of Wisconsin and sister-in-law, Clair Petersen of Pennsylvania; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her wonderful husband, Wayne; and her beloved siblings, Evelyn, James, Roger and Dennis; and her granddaughter-in-law, Diana Coughlin. Right up to her death, she was talking about all the people she so loved and those that she has missed all these years.
