Mary Helen Neterval

RACINE - Mary Helen Neterval, age 85, passed away Thursday, April 24, 2014 at her residence. She was born June 12, 1928 to William and Luella (nee Kohl) Doolittle in West Palm Beach, FL. Mary’s early life was spent in West Palm Beach. She was a graduate of Palm Beach High School. Following high school she attended St. Lukes School of Nursing in Racine and worked at St. Lukes Hospital. On June 8, 1950 she was united in marriage to the late Richard Neterval at Redeemer Lutheran Church in West Palm Beach, FL. Following their marriage she worked as an office nurse for Dr. William Haedike in Union Grove and later worked on their farm and mink ranch in Yorkville. They were members of Grace Lutheran Church and then The Lutheran Chapel of the Cross. She was a member of The Lutheran Chapel of the Cross Ladies Guild and took part in other activities. Mary was a homemaker, a Wheaton Franciscan Volunteer, a member of Great Lakes Mink Association, Farm Bureau Women and 55+ at Chapel of the Cross. Mary formed Creature Comforts of Racine, an organization that took animals to visit residents at the nursing homes. Mary also worked on the mink farm doing all the vaccinating, mink grading and helped with the pelting. She enjoyed all types of handiwork such as knitting and tatting. Mary donated her remains to the Anatomical Gift Association of Illinois to further medical advances and education. Mary is survived by many nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband. A Memorial Service for Mary will be held on Friday May 2, 2014 at 6:00PM at The Lutheran Chapel of the Cross, 1426 North Fancher Rd. Racine, WI with Rev Brian Liermann officiating. In Lieu of flowers the family has suggested any memorials be made to The Lutheran Chapel of the Cross.
