Nicholas Echeverria Obituary

Nicholas John Echeverria II

July 20, 1943 - July 31, 2024

Nicholas John Echeverria II was born at home to the late Nicholas & Estella (Robles) Echeverria in Racine, WI on July 20, 1943. A strong man with a kind spirit, he was known for his stubbornness & incredible resilience, living with Parkinson's for 40+ years. His fighting spirit was apparent until he passed away on July 31, 2024, age 81.

Nick graduated from Horlick High School in 1963, served in the Army during the Vietnam War and went on to attend Gateway Technical College. For more than 40 years, Nick worked in logistics at S.C. Johnson, where his dedication and work ethic earned him the respect and admiration of his colleagues. Known affectionately as "Hacka" by his JMBA basketball teammates, he cherished the camaraderie and competition of the sport. To many friends, he was known as "Big Nick from the North", a playful nod to his 5'5" stature. Members of the Lion's Club referred to him as "Lion Nick", while others had their own affectionate variations of his name. Nick also found joy in jiu-jitsu, running, woodworking and fishing. As a member of the Fishing Club, he often spent weekends at his favorite spots with family and friends, which provided him tranquility and a deep connection to nature.

Nick was married for 51 wonderful years to his beloved wife, Lonnie (LaFave) Echeverria. Together they shared a life filled with love, adventure, and countless cherished memories. Nick was a proud father to Nicholas John Echeverria III (son), Liberty (fur grandchild), Brellyn (Jason) Ellenberger (daughter); Jason & Caleb Ellenberger (grandchildren), Bentley Echeverria (fur son). He was loved dearly and will be profoundly missed by his sisters; Antonia Diaz & Adela Echeverria. The deep bond he had with his nephew, Gil Rendon, along with many nieces, nephews, in-laws, and dear friends will always be cherished.

A devout Catholic, Nicholas's faith was a guiding light throughout his life, providing him with strength, purpose, and a profound sense of community. Nick will be remembered for his generous loving heart, adventurous spirit, and the lasting impact he made on the lives of those who knew him. He leaves behind a legacy of love and resilience that will continue to inspire his family and friends for generations to come.

Lonnie, so very sorry for the loss of Nick. Such a wonderful , positive person with a terrific smile. I regret that as time passed we only saw Nick at 20 year club. So glad we made that cruise with you both, great memory! SCJ was so lucky to have such a loyal, hard working
employee. So hoping Nick has met up with his old buddy, Bill. May fond and happy memories provide you and your family with comfort, and may Nick rest in peace.

Lonnie, I am so sorry to learn of Nick´s passing. He was such a great guy and loved by many. I still remember him shoveling muck out of our basement of the house we were building so very many years ago. Hugs to you Lonnie, I do know what you are going thru as I lost my husband 7 years ago in December.

My sincere condolences to Lonnie and the whole family.
I met Nick when we were 13-14 yrs old. He gave me some pointers on my pool game. Then Island Park where all the kids would go to practice the latest dance moves from "Band Stand" for the Saturday afternoon Sick Hops! Fond memories of a soft spoken, genuinely nice person. Sorry to hear of his years battling Parkinson's, a truly nasty painful, active life robbing disease.
Rest In Peace Nick, I know you'll be missed by any and all that knew you.
