Normann G. Black, Sr.
March 19, 1932 - November 30, 2025
Normann G. Black, Sr., beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great-grandfather, passed away peacefully in his home, surrounded by family on November 30, 2025, at the age of 93.
Normann was born on March 19, 1932, to Garvin and Helen (Isley) Black. On July 28th, 1951, he was united in marriage to Evelyna "Dolly" Selina VanDerWielen of Racine, Wis., in which they feasted on chicken dinner. On July 28th, for 71 years, they enjoyed their chicken dinners together. When the love of his life passed in 2022, he continued the tradition of celebrating their union on the 28th with chicken.
Normann was drafted into the United States Army, where he served until his honorable discharge due to a medical condition in 1952.
Normann's passion was the outdoors. He enjoyed hunting, whether it was deer, elk, moose, bear, geese and more. If there was a hunt, you would find Norm. He loved camping and fishing with his family throughout the United States. There was nothing better than waking up to seeing him do his little dance with a smile on his face, frying bacon on the Colman stove. He never met a sweet he didn't like, especially his raisin pie and homemade doughnuts.
Normann was a well-respected machinist who retired in 2012. Even in retirement, he still loved to tinker and fix things. He had a knack for thinking outside of the box. If he couldn't fix it, you knew it was broken.
Normann is survived by his children, Normann Black, Jr. of Chicago, Ill., Scott (Cindy) Black of Sturtevant, Wis., Sue (Wayne) Maltbey of Bowler, Wis., Michael (Tamra) Black of Racine and Antone (Christine) Black of Caledonia, Wis.. He is further survived by 18 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and many nieces, nephews and countless friends.
Normann was preceded in death by his wife, Dolly; his son, Kevin; parents; and siblings.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff at Hospice Alliance in Pleasant Prairie, Wis., for the comfort and care received during his final months. Normann will be laid to rest at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery in a private ceremony next to his wife and son.
A celebration of life is planned for July 28, 2026, with chicken dinners on Mom and Dad's 75th anniversary.
