Sarkis Bogosian Obituary

Sarkis H. "Sam" Bogosian

April 23, 1936 - August 22, 2025

Mobile, AL- Sarkis H. "Sam" Bogosian, 89, passed away August 22, 2025, at Providence Hospital, Mobile, Ala.

We have lost a man of deep faith and a heart of gold and will be missed.

He was born in Racine, Wis., April 23, 1936, son of the late Garabed and Saranush (nee: Ekizian) Bogosian.

Sam attended Garfield Elementary, Franklin Junior High and Wm. Horlick High School, "Class of 1954". He served in the United States Marine Corps 1956-1958 and was a member of the Marine Corps League. A professional photographer, Sam owned and operated Samuel's Studio in Racine 1959-1970, and was awarded the title Master-Craftsman of Photography in 1971.

In the early 70's, he relocated to Riverdale, Ga., to operate ViVi Color, eventually moving to Asheboro, N.C., where he was a portraiture instructor at Randolph Technical College.

In addition to photography, Sam was very talented at woodworking and made many beautiful pieces of furniture and cabinetry, as well as restoring antiques.

Sam will be deeply missed by his loving better half, Joyce Sweatt of Mobile, Ala.; his daughter, Sari Bogosian; sisters and brother-in-law, Ann Scantling and Margaret and Jerome Bloxdorf, and nephew and Godson, Kenneth (Karen) Larsen. Extended family in Alabama, Brenda (Mark) Browning, Alice (the late Robert) Brown, David Sweatt and Lucinda (Richard) Blackwell.

In addition to his parents, Sam was preceded in death by his stepfather, Garabed Aghabalian; brother, Sarkis Bogosian; infant brother, Samuel Bogosian; sisters, Esther (Kenneth) Larsen and Rose Bogosian, and brother-in-law, Walter Scantling.

A very special thank you to the Sweatt family and the staff at Providence Hospital for their loving and compassionate care given to our Sam in his final days.

Visitation will be held at St. Hagop Armenian Apostolic Church, 4100 N. Newman Rd, on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, from 10 to 11 a.m. Funeral Service will begin at 11 a.m. with Father Zareh Sahakian officiating. Interment will follow in Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery. Memorials to St. Hagop Armenian Apostolic Church have been suggested.

So sorry to hear of Sam's passing. He certainly led an interesting life. We talked alot about photography as we had a shared interest. He refinished so many pieces of antique furniture that was left to me and I even purchased several pieces from him. He will be missed.
