Velta M. "Bunnie" Nelsen

RACINE - Velta M. “Bunnie” Nelsen, age 89, passed away Thursday January 12, 2017. Velta was born in Beaman, Iowa on December 3, 1927, daughter of the late Howard and Ethel (nee: Hughes) Hammond. During World War II, Velta helped the effort while employed with Hughes Aircraft Co. building radar for ships. She was married to Robert Nelsen in 1973 and shared forty years together he passed away in 2013. Together, they started and built up Cedar Hills Church in Oak Creek where he served as Pastor. Bunnie enjoyed crafts of all sorts, but her greatest joy came from her family, especially her grandchildren. She will be dearly missed by her loving son, Gordon (Loretta) Olson; grandchildren, Collette Olson, Ryley Olson and Gordon A. Olson; four great grandchildren; sister, Alta Carmody; sister in –law, JoAnne (Wayne) Behrens; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents, Bunnie was also preceded in death by her son, Steven Klug; brother and sister-in-law, Gene (Lois) Hammond. Private family services will be held at a later date.
