William Phalen Obituary

RACINE - William J. 'Bill' Phalen, 64, passed away Tuesday, August 30, 2011, at Wheaton Franciscan - All Saints Medical Center. He was born in Kenosha October 31, 1946, son of the late William T. and Estelle (nee: Schultz) Phalen. On April 21, 1995, he was united in marriage to Lynda A. Dworak. Bill was a graduate of St. Joseph High School and Dominican College. Furthering his education, he graduated from Roosevelt University, Chicago, Ill., receiving a Masters Degree in Public Administration. He proudly served in the United States Naval Reserves. Bill's fascination with flying model airplanes and racing bicycles at a young age expanded as he became the Owner and Operator of Gary's Hobby Center. His other pastimes included sailing, skiing, dancing, and all types of music. More than anything, he cherished time spent with his family. He will be deeply missed. Survivors include his loving wife of 16 years, Lynda; his children, Kristin (Eric) Hartung, Cynthia Phalen, all of Racine, Julie (Dean) Nolden of Manitowoc; his six grandchildren, Ethan, Ryan, and Mason Hartung, Lindsay, Jack, and Kate Nolden; other relatives and many dear friends. Funeral services with full Military Honors will be held Wednesday, September 7, 2011, 6 p.m. at the funeral home with Fr. William E. Kohler officiating. Private interment will be held. Relatives and friends may meet with the family Wednesday at the funeral home from 4 until 6 p.m. Memorials to the Hope Safehouse in memory of Bill's love for animals have been suggested. My sincere condolences to Bill's family for their loss. I had the honor of teaching Bill how to fly an R/C model airplane many years ago. We shared many fun times together in the Racine R/C club especially running the annual Spring 'take-off' dinners at Dino's. I miss you old friend. God bless.
